DISD Vote: How Low Can It Go?

Turnout was predicted to be “light” for today’s DISD runoff election–and that may prove to be an understatement. Voting close to noon in the District 3 race between incumbent Leigh Ann Ellis and insurgent Bruce “The Parrott Man” Parrott, my Better Half says hers was only the 11th ballot cast at L.L. Hotchkiss Elementary School. I’ll vote later today, so at least they’ll have an even dozen.

  1. There are about 5,000 signs for Parrott in my grandmother’s neighborhood. (Reinhardt) The one Ellis sign I saw on Sunday had been spray painted with Parrott’s name on top. But a large amount of houses in her ‘hood have become rent houses over the last 15-20 years. Are renters less likely to vote? I would assume so. There’s no financial investment so why make a deep emotional investment in your school board rep, especially if it’s likely you could move to another area after your lease is up. I wonder what the voter registration percentage in the area, especially among renters.

  2. Is anyone who lives within DISD eligible to vote in this election or only people who live in district 9? How can I tell if I live in district 9?
