Randy Galloway doesn’t think that’s a good thing. According to Galloway, neither does the Ranger staff:
“I work for Tom, I wanted Tom to be successful at this, but, frankly, we can’t sell Tom,” said one. “Our fans, for the most part, will not buy Tom. And our former season-ticket holders, and we’d lost a lot of those because of Mr. Hicks, will not come back if Tom is still the owner.”
Really? That’s the problem in selling tickets? The owner?

Yep, Tom can’t hit worth a damn, get rid of him.
And those of us who bought playoff tickets have yet to receive our refunds.
I won’t spend a single dime in Dallas, Texas, so long as Tom Hicks lives here. For the most part, I will not buy him.
Actually, Wick, yes. Season ticket holders aren’t stupid enough to keep renewing their ticket packages when they know Hicks is either unwilling or unable to spend the necessary dollars to keep the team competitive.
I will not renew my 2010 mini plan if Tom is still the majority owner. His money problems caused the Rangers to miss out on 2 great acquisitions this past summer.
I wonder if Roberto Diaz will renew his mini-plan if Hicks remains the owner?
The baseball salary structure is totally messed up and I don’t know how the other teams are supposed to compete with the Yankees, Mets Boston, etc. Last season, Alex Rodriquez made a ridiculous $33 million dollars and the total team payroll of the Florida Marlins was under $37 million. The Rangers were in the bottom third with $68 million. Tom Hicks tried to buy wins but it didn’t work as it is not a level playing field. Let’s hope that Nolan Ryan is in the Ranger team’s future.
The Rangers bank tens of millions of dollars prior to selling a single ticket. With Hicks in charge, my fear always will be that he is more concerned about hoarding as much of that money for himself instead of using it to improve the team. I refuse to commit to spending thousands of dollars on season tickets under those circumstances. For similar reasons, I refused to buy Mavs season tickets until after Cuban bought the team (say what you want about him and some of the personnel decisions he and Mavs mgmt have made, but you know he is always going to put his money into the product!).
Many fans have the same feeling as when Perot owned the Mavs. He owned the Mavs for every reason but to win and put a passionate team on the floor. This is the same feeling we get with Hicks owning the Rangers. Time for a change!
Move the team to Downtown Dallas and they will sell some tickets.
Hicks sees the Rangers as an investment, and is milking it for all he can. He’s a cheapskate owner who won’t invest in the team to make it successful. Until someone comes along, who has love for the game (like Cuban and the Mavs), there’s no reason to spend the money on tickets. Why reward bad owner behavior?
I have been a Mavs season ticket holder since just before the Jason Kidd draft. There is no way I would have kept renewing those tickets if Ross Perot, Jr., still owned the team. It does matter to me who owns the team and how he runs it. Season ticket holders are buying in to an organization and we need to see a well-run organization or we “sell.” If Mark Cuban had run the Mavs the way Hicks has run the Rangers, I would have given up my Mavs season tickets long ago. Note: I am a Mavs fan for life, season tickets or no.
