Mitch Rasansky to Run for Dallas County Judge?

Having heard the rumor, I called former city councilman Mitch Rasansky to ask him if he was, indeed, seriously considering running for Jim Foster’s county judge seat. I got him on the phone, but Rasansky had to call me back. On the other line, he was talking to an irate person who still thought he was a city councilman. Which is awesome. Then, when he called me back, I almost didn’t answer the phone because the caller ID said “Ferrari Dallas.” I asked him why, and he said he was surprised to hear that; they don’t even have caller ID at his office. Twenty-five or 30 years ago, Rasansky said, he used to buy and sell Ferraris. Maybe that’s why it still says that. Again, awesome. (I mean, Mitch Rasansky behind the wheel of a Ferrari?)

So, about that rumor. Rasansky says: “About 10 days ago, I had two calls in concert from people asking me to run. I hadn’t even been considering it. Since then, those two people have gotten other people to call me. … I am thinking about it. I have called some people for some advice. I did attend a commissioners court meeting. … I am weighing in my mind whether I can do good for the city of Dallas. I’m a workaholic; the time isn’t an issue. If I decide to do it, it’s only for my love of the city.”

I don’t know Rasansky well. It’s hard for me to say what to read between the lines. But the guy has worked for the city in one capacity or another for 23 years. Sort of seems like it’s in his blood. I do know this: Wade Emmert is the handpicked Republican gunning for Foster’s seat. I know which way Emmert hopes Rasansky will go.

The former Councilman had better recognize quickly that this job isn’t all about “doing good for the city of Dallas” – there are a lot more cities in Dallas County than Dallas, and he’ll need to want to “do good” for all of them.

    Run Mitchell run!

I love the fact that Jim Foster is FINALLY shaking things up on the Commissioners court, but it is too little, too late.

We need someone who is going to run a tight ship. Mitchell did that in District 13 and I know he will do it for Dallas County.

Where can I get a Rasansky for County Judge yard sign?

Great–just what we need: a sourpuss iconoclast running the Commissioners Court of Dallas County. Jim Foster is ineffectual, but pleasant. Mitchell Rasansky is ineffectual, but unpleasant. Sure, he says all the right(!) things about fiscal responsibility and accountability, but his record demonstrates an astonishing inability to work with others to accomplish his goals.

Mitchell is a great gadfly–not unlike good ol’ Max Goldblatt. Raises good points, but cannot seem to ever get a majority of his colleagues to support him.

Frankly, in a political body that requires majority votes to accomplish anything, that can be a detriment, but where the ineffectual gadfly is the leader of the group, you have a disaster, a void of leadership. Mitchell, if you want to do good for the city of Dalls, stay retired. We need a leader as County Judge, and you ain’t it.

Yes, please, please run! Emmert doesn’t have the skills necessary to take on DA Watkins! Dallas County needs you Mitchell.

  • Mission Control

Just imagine regular meetings, with Mitch Rasansky vs. John Wiley Price. Fun.

@Happy GOP: Wrong race; get with the program. County judge, not DA.

  • Happy GOP

@Sam: I know it is a County Judge race and not a DA race. My point was that we need people on the Commissioners Court who will call out our publicity-loving DA for his poor performance.

Mitchell is the right guy for that. Emmert is just a lightweight.

I wouldn’t vote for Rasansky for any countywide position. Emmert, on the other hand, has been running a strong grassroots campaign, is a good guy, and would make a great judge for the entire county. Rasansky needs to stay out of this race so the GOP can focus on beating the Democratic candidate, which obviously will not be Foster.

    Run Mitchell, run!!

Rasansky represents all that is wrong with the old guard of the Republican Party. We can’t just lean on the “heart” of the city of Dallas any more, this is about Dallas County as a whole. It’s time for someone younger, but with the experience it takes to be the future of Dallas County.

Wade Emmert has garnered the support of people across Dallas County and has been running a machine of a campaign for months, Rasansky’s time has passed. Run Wade Run!

“Rasansky represents all that is wrong with the old guard of the Republican Party.”

Oh, really? You mean like standing firm for limited government, low taxes, a strong economy, etc.?

I will take the meat-and-potatoes, non-nonsense conservative principles of Mitchell over the soft, feel-good, oh-dear-Lord-please-make-the-Democrats-like-me values of Emmert any day.

I do support a big tent approach. But, not at the expense of my principles.

Since when has the Republican party stood for any of those things, HappyGOP? The last I heard, all they want to talk about is the gays, the abortions, and the “He wasn’t born in the US, he was born in Hawaii” President.

There’s a LOT of people who would love to vote for that old guard Republican party that actually BELIEVED in lower taxes, lower spending, and less government, instead of getting all up in everyone’s business ’cause weren’t Baptist enough.
