CBS11 devoted more than 7 minutes last night to this Bennett Cunningham report on Rick Perry’s family excursion to Jerusalem, paid for by Israeli oil interests who have scored big in Texas. The trip took place while Perry was announcing a reduction in travel by state employees and carried a taxpayer price tag of $70,000 — plus overtime — for Perry’s security detail (the Israelis don’t provide security?). The purpose of the trip was so that Perry could receive a “Defender of Jerusalem” award.
As for how secret the trip was, the News’s Christy Hoppe reported on it in August, so maybe it was only a secret to CBS11. Hoppe further noted that Perry is an unusual recepient of such an award, since in 2006 he said he agreed that Jews and non-believers will be condemned to eternal damnation.

The “News” reported it but then didn’t look into it further? Nice piece of lazy journalism Mrs. Hoppe. I wish more reporters would look beyond the pablum fed by the political machine and to see what is really going on. Thank goodness for the Byron Harris and Brett Shipps of the world.
After visiting the News story online and following the links offered I made a discovery. It seems our Gov has discovered a rich Jewish Rev. Parsley. And he’s found favor with the Jewish crazy just like he found favor with the Christian one.
One has to wonder……
Kep after Rick, Wick!
Byron Harris, yes. Brett Shipp, no.
Wick, knowing how we all want to believe the best in our elected officials (and Rob Allyn and Carol Reed), let’s consider a possible alternative explanation possibly inferred here.
Perhaps what the Governor suggested re: ….Jews, like heretics, suffering ‘eternal damnation’: That he meant to imply that those Jews showing reluctance to do business in Texas while he was in office would have to explain themselves to Jesus. And that Jews who chose to honor him in their homeland would be possibly forgiven for doing ‘God’s work’ with a ‘true believer’ (in the Texas Railroad Commission?)
With that in mind, since taxpayers paid $70,000 for El Rick to be the toast of Tel Aviv, can I dare hope then….being myself a taxpayer….that by voting for Rick Perry, I am less likely to go to hell than a KBH disciple? Is the message ‘heaven or hell on earth’ or the ballot? Can Texans seeking salvation not feel confused and conflicted in their fear of being left by this behind?
