Yes, Paul, and I was remiss in not mentioning P-R's remarks about the old shed. Thanks for your contribution. Here's what I'd add to that: the way P-R referenced the past, the depth of his remarks -- even in the five minutes he was given -- stood in stark contrast to Koolhaas' remarks. I get the sense that the PAC is doing all it can to leverage Koolhaas' name. As it should. But P-R deserves most of the credit for the building's singular features.

I got some footage of P-R talking about the old shed and what thinking was involved in trying to recreate it in the space

Just for the record, not all of us female media heard Eric's unisex restroom challenge. Hey, Eric, didn't I used to work for you when you were at the Met? When I was Joy Dickinson? In any case, game on. Meet me near the green thing.

@ Topham: Prince-Ramus made the same point at TED last Saturday. He showed a slide of the shed theater and talked about its adaptability as a theatrical space -- and said the Wyly was designed to copy it. Which I thought was enlightened, humble, and funny.

This is a slightly revised version of comment that I left on KERA's blog this morning, but if the DMN can "re-purpose" content, why can't I?

One insight that has made me feel more warmly toward the Wyly came from Jeremy Weeks’ discussion with Richard Pilbrow of Theatre Projects, the center's consultant. Pilbrow made it clear that the new theater is a direct heir of the old DTC shed theater: it’s meant to replicate that old space’s flexibility, but with much greater speed and ease. I really liked that shed and the work produced there. The Wyly’s industrial aesthetic echoes — in a very updated way — the old Arts District Theater, even down to the corrugated facade. Of course, the new building must stand on its own, but for those of us who’ve been going to the DTC for the last 20 years, the connection to the old space is both informative and nostalgic.
