In the current episode of the “print product,” there appear two stories about an experiment we ran to determine whether the forthcoming Museum Tower might possibly interfere with the Nasher Sculpture Center’s wonderful installation Tending, (Blue). You can read Willard Spiegelman’s sober, insightful account of our caper here. Me, I just write jokes. Anyway, I’d forgotten till now that I’d taken this picture. In the final scene of my story, when the DSO’s PR director, Stacie Adams, catches me standing in their backyard, here’s what I was doing:
I clicked though on the “jokes” link but didn’t find any. Am I missing something?
Tim Rogers and himself: A love affair that will never die.
Yes, Spiegelman’s account is “sobering” but the two stories go together in describing the full circumference of the experiment. Is Rogers’ essay “jokey?” Sure, but there’s also physics and whatnot involved: Logistics, a dirigible, a container of a gaseous element of high thermal conductivity, problematics with tethers and lab associates. Last but not least, a rogue element that could have dashed the day’s efforts: a PR person acting on behalf of the arts community who is disturbed by impromptu science experiments in parking lots–and perhaps even by people who choose to interact with art installations outside the bounds of museum directives. Mon Dieu!
I like it when people aren’t intimidated by art, experimentation and open space (within legal limits, of course). Power to the People.
