About the Dallas Derby Devils
The Dallas Derby Devils originated in November 2004 when this group of
athletic females who enjoyed skating hit the Dallas scene.  The Devils
are the original Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex roller derby league with a
current roster of more than 90 active skaters, making them the largest
flat track roller derby league in the South.  There are currently more
than 206 leagues around the nation.  When the Devils play, it’s a full
contact, hard-core extravaganza.  Each female, armed with her own
on-track persona, exhibits athleticism and sportsmanship while promoting
and maintaining the importance of community involvement. The Dallas
Derby Devils are a proud member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby
Association, a national governing body of flat track leagues that are
skater owned and operated.

  4. Sure Dallas has two leagues…one that competes on a national level and sells out a stadium, and one that has about 15 “skaters” that are supported by an outlaw motorcycle gang.

    Hey Matt Bertelsen (A.K.A. Mattomic).
Isn’t there 3 roller derby leagues in Dallas? What happened to men’s derby (Dallas Deception)? DFW is big enough for the 3 of us. Can’t we all just get along?

  7. I was doing some research after reading the reply about the roller derby being sponsored by an outlaw motorcycle gang, i think its a great thing that the dallas derby devils support all these biker clubs (gangs) they do awesome things for children.

  8. Been there. Drew showed up 1 hour late, spent 1 hour with press, a few minutes with contest winners and then the rest of us, who had wristbands and been standing for 5 hours in the rain, were told they’re runn8ing behind and we can leave now. She didn’t sign any autographs for us! So, thank you Moroch Entertainment and Fox Searchlight and thanks Drew, for having my wife, me and my 3 year old stand in the rain for 5 hours. We now know what you think of your fans.

    @ 9:45 pm on September 16, 2009
  9. Supposed “meet and greet” did not work out very good.

My husband and I stood IN THE RAIN today for 5 hours! We got wristbands then when it was FINALLY time to go inside for autographs, all but 15 PEOPLE were turned down. If you only had time to let 15 people in for autographs, then only hand out 15 wristbands and don’t waste people’s time. Foxlight, you were trying to promote a movie to people to make them WANT to see it, but you succeeded in making so many people mad. I have such a bad taste in my mouth after today that I don’t even care about the movie anymore…and get this…I am a DERBY GIRL!

We should AT LEAST get FREE movie tickets for standing in the rain so long and the media people that told us to leave did not even care. I guess FOXLIGHT doesn’t care about the people that make their job possible…without people, their promotional efforts would all be for nothing. Without people, who would watch their movies.

  10. Oh, and I’m glad to see someone else agrees! Thanks for replying, Martin. I hope more people speak out. We need to get free tickets for this…it’s the LEAST they can do!

    @ 4:11 am on September 17, 2009
  11. @ Julie

I know we weren’t the only people upset yesterday. This event left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths. Especially when word of mouth is so important for independent films nowadays, to create this kind of publicity can’t be good.

I wrote Moroch (Dallas@Moroch.com) to complain and let everyone I know in on how my experience was. Especially since I was excited before yesterday, because from what I’ve seen and read, Drew Barrymore is a very nice and approachable celebrity. Too bad the organizers were horrible.

    @ 9:00 am on September 17, 2009
  12. Totally agree. I have a friend who used to live in LA and said she’s met Drew, and Drew is very nice. Too bad the promo people made her look bad. I will write Moroch too. Thanks for posting their email!

  13. Julie

You weren’t the only one, took off work and stood out there for hours, was probably about 30ish in line and still went home with jack. Just about the poorest run event I’ve ever seen it was poorly handled and like you said if they knew they’d only be able to get through 15 people they should have just handed out that many passes and we could have been on our way

    @ 10:58 am on September 17, 2009
  14. They gave out free screening passes (only good after the movie comes out Oct. 2nd) if you stood in line waiting upstairs inside Angelika and could not get into the movie due to over occupancy. But I’m pretty sure you had to have the free admit two voucher from Foxlight.

    @ 12:11 pm on September 17, 2009
  15. It wouldn’t hurt to contact Foxlight for those vouchers, since it was very chaotic in Mockingbird Station. The worst they could say is no, right?

    @ 12:19 pm on September 17, 2009
  16. Sounds like a plan. Thanks Gigi!

    @ 2:04 pm on September 17, 2009
  17. i feel all yalls pain. waited 6 hours and left with nothing but promo junk given to console us after being turned away…why pass out that many wristbands if you cant do that many people? there were alot of things wrong with last night. the event organizers: kiss fm, fox searchlight, moroch, urban outfitters, etc…they should have done a better job. the press and fan events should have been on separate times so that both had the time they needed. the screening shouldnt have been at the same time either. also each organizer who walked the line had a different story about what was going on. i dont think anyone knew what they were doing. what’s sad is they didnt and probably wont try to make amends to us fans who got burned last night. i would take a free ticket to see the movie. it wont replace a photo with drew or meeting her in person or getting her autograph but it will atleast show some shred of apology over the chaos from last night. i wont hold my breath though. too bad, bc i was a huge fox searchlight fan…adam and 500 days of summer were my 2 favorite movies as of late. but now im not really sure i want to help fund a company and show support for something that cares so little about the fans.

    @ 2:38 pm on September 17, 2009
  18. It was definately poorly run and there was major miss-communication. If there is any way to some how repay people who didn’t get in, they should try to do so. However, I do have to say- anyone that would wait for 5 hours in the rain with their 3 year old needs to reconsider their parenting skills. Way more than 15 people got in, about 50 I would say. I watched them all walk past me after I got my autograph and picture. I waited in line for 10 hours. I suggest getting to an even like this super early, cause you never know what might go wrong. (most people did not arrive until after 2pm and the wrists bands were to be handed out at 5:30). The problem is the interviewing that took 1 hour while we were wall supposed to be getting our autographs. They scheduled way to much for one night. If she didn’t have to go do the q & a (for a whole other group that waited in line in the rain), then she could have stayed with us even though it was raining. Should have handed out way less wrist bands or done one event or the other.

Drew however was fabulous. Apologized for the rain. Signed autographs, took pics, and shook ands the whole way up the line on her way in. She signed whatever you gave her, even though the handlers said posters only. I wanted the poster signed though, considering this is her directorial debut.

WE LOVE YOU DREW. Completely worth 10 hours in the rain!

    @ 8:04 pm on September 17, 2009
  19. Edit: she could have stayed with us even though she was running late.

Please don’t boycott her movie. This isn’t Drews fault and it is her directorial debut guys!

  20. @ GiGi, not sure why you would assume i or the dallas deception men’s team would publish anything harmful against another league. i have no problems or hard feelings with ACRD over past occurances. there are girls with that league that i respect highly as skaters and i have friends there too. whoever posted that comment has nothing to do with our men’s team or myself. thanks for showing some character and throwing me under the bus. best of luck to you and your league.
In regards to the premiere, it was very sad to see some people turned away from the movie, but this is how premieres work, it even stated on the tickets that they hand out more tickets than seats available to insure a full house for filming purposes.
