Had a drink last night with an FBvian whose significant other works at Sewell Lexus. I asked if there had been a slowdown in new car sales and received an unexpected answer. Apparently, people are still buying new Lexuses, but they are requesting that the interior, paint color, amenities, etc., match those of the car they are replacing. Why? So their friends and colleagues aren’t wise to the new purchase, given how it might be perceived in these rough economic times.

Wow, the exact opposite of what men do when they get a new wife. Sneaky indeed.
this is like that story i saw/read somewhere the other day about women on Rodeo Drive/Upper East Side etc. asking for their purchases to be placed in plain brown bags to hide schwanky labels, i guess so not to flaunt the purchase
but i don’t get it, man, seriously
if you’ve got it, flaunt it, and eff everybody else…caving in to other’s perceptions is just sad
It’s totally in keeping with America’s Great leap Forward.
Identical gray outfits for everyone.
If you’re getting the same amenities, etc, and apparently the same model (since friends/family won’t notice) why buy a new car? Seriously, tell me. I want to know.
Do friends and colleagues notice that the “Thanks President Bush” bumper sticker is missing from the new car, or do they order a new one of those, too?
I still lament the loss of my “Lick Bush in ‘92″ bumper sticker. I miss my old truck but not Bush.
One second thought, I get it. Under this Administration, I wouldn’t want to flaunt making over $250k/yr.
@JNS
Low miles, warranty. New Car smell. Newer electronics, etc.
Do not be afraid John. We already know that because we’ve been tapping your phone since 2002.
We keep extras on hand. I have a whole roll of “Bush Quayle 92″ stickers in the attic.
