Online contributor and former People Newspaperman Peter Simek passes along this:
A big Dallas related Oscar winner last night: Megan Mylan for best documentary short. Her parents still live in Dallas and she grew up here (at least for part of her childhood). I can’t remember where she went to school, but I got to interview her a number of years back when her Lost Boys of Sudan movie came out and played at the Angelika. Some of those boys live here still. They go to a church in Richardson and work at Central Market.
The short was Smile Pinki. Congrats to Megan. And congrats to a different Megan for winning the Oscar pool last night. As she said of The Duchess, one of her many correct calls, “Never go against a period piece when it comes to Best Costume.”
Speaking of Oscars, I thought it was rude that the Academy awarded one to Heath Ledger and he didn’t bother to show up.
That said, Ledger should have won for Brokeback Mountain. But Hollywood shafted him that year.
The use of the word shaft in any reference to Brokeback Mountain is extremely uncomfortable.
I’m pretty sure that was intentional.
She went to Highland Park. I remember her.
How come nobody is talking about the “Wardrobe Malfunction” with one of those Indian style dancers. Her left top thingy was almost coming out as the guy who won best original score was speaking after he sang the song he won for. If you rewind from the speech during the dance, there is some full top frontal going on.
I think the men in this group would like you to get a screen grab of that and post a link. They’re busy men, and can’t watch an entire Oscar speech.
I though of that but I’m not that tech savy with DVR and I figured it’d be on youtube or all over the news , ala Janet Jackson when I woke up today but surprisingly; no buzz. Believe me. Its there.
When Sean Penn won for Milk, it made me want to blow my brains out.
Ok, Trey’s was intentional. Was SB’s?
I’m just amazed that it’s managed to stay posted this long.
SB, What breed of dog are you?
The kind that laughs at dead, irrelevant political figures.
