Byron Nelson By Any Name

I just got my first communique from something called “the HP Byron Nelson Championship.” That’s gonna take some getting used to.

  1. Not sure how any company can justify spending the $$$ it takes to sponsor a PGA tour event when it has laid off thousands of people to stay afloat.

I understand the argument, just not sure how they can justify it.

  2. Hmmm. I’d assume they had a contractual obligation already in place…

  3. The CEO of EDS last year extended the title sponsor role till 2014 I understand. HP has to honor it. The CEO had to know what was coming.

  4. Maybe they could sell the deal to Nestle who could then utilize their Hot Pockets brand for the sponsorship. That way, they could keep all the signage intact. All printed materials would still refer to the “HP Byron Nelson Championship” but announcers could coolly refer to the event as “Nelson’s Hot Pocket.”

    IJS.
