Old news, but worth repeating. One wonders if when an irate subscriber cancels his subscription in Fort Worth over what a Dallas writer produced, the cancellation will be shared….Of course, we know that from now on every time someone subscribes to the Star-Telegram, it’ll add 5 to 15 subscribers to the Dallas News “records.”

Well, it’s not really old news because it wasn’t official until today.

what does this mean for Grumpy?

Of course, it’s not really new news, either, if everybody and his sports-reading dog already heard about the cunning ploy to move a more-than-competent baseball writer, Evan Grant, to the football beat. Keen judgement is the hallmark of DMN management.

Man, if we keep cutting back on newspapers… what are we going to do with all these freaking trees?

Apparently proper box scores and standings are a casualty of these changes too. Both are now in redacted form in hard-to-read agate type in the back of the sports section. With each passing day, the DMN sports section more and more resembles the sports section of a small town newspaper circa 1981.

I like pie.

@me – you can get the proper box score and standings at a number of websites. Give the DMN a break.

D is being very smart and disciplined about their news campaign on the state of DMN. Their dead tree products will profit handsomely in the short term if upscale businesses shift their ad dollars to more targeted publications.

I think they have to employ enough people to provide all the information that would be included in a box score. Since they keep laying off, we are soon to see only headlines, no stories.

Brent, you can get more sports information about everything at any number of websites. The typical AP story about a Rangers/Mavs/Stars game is far better than the handful of sentences the DMN writes. Which raises the question: why subscribe? There is nothing in the DMN, sports or otherwise, I can’t get elsewhere, usually in more comprehensive form.

Getting rid of the box scores stinks.

Evan Grant’s wonderful coverage of the Rangers is the only reason I follow that team or sport any more. Please, please, please DMN don’t loose him. With the Yankees wallet whipping the league year in and year out the game is merely an exhibition and not a true contest. Mr. Grant’s writing makes it all tolerable.

I love that the DMN going to charge $1 for the daily paper and $2 for Sunday. I haven’t wanted to give up the “paper” paper but with so many wire stories and inadequate local coverage, I think I am at the point.

FrontBurner® launched in March 2003, the first blog in Dallas run by a media organization. This is where the editors of D Magazine come to waste a tremendous amount of time.

Did Tim already allude to this development?
