Well, we know they won't be glow in the dark. I mean, dark would be a bad adjective, right? It would have to be glow in the not light, or something.

What are "professional Hispanics"? Is there some sort of minor league system that "professional Hispanics" have to graduate from prior to becoming professional? Are there any amateur Hispanics out there?

That may well be true, Dallasite -- by no means do I think Hispanic-Americans necessarily support the interests of illegal immigrants. So, agreed.

Phil, at what point would you find it odd? The city's half Hispanic and the city council is 0% Hipsanic? My only comment was wow. It's statistically baffling. You've chosen to infer from "wow" that I champion identity politics, which I abhor, and yet are you not disingenuous yourself? It's a fine line between identity politics and disenfranchisement. Not sure that line's been crossed exactly, since, as I observed, the Hispanic population has only themselves to thank for the situation.

P.S. I do not believe for a minute that O'Hare et al are perfectly cool with legal Hispanics of the lower-income variety. Not saying they're racist per se -- but their plan for economic development appears to be to legislate poor people out of existence. Just sit back and watch it continue to backfire. Neither my opinions nor yours will change that.

The city is 47% Hispanic yet two thirds of the city voted to ban illegals.

Looks like a lot of Hispanics voted for the referendum, huh? Maybe they accurately see that there is a difference between Hispanic and illegal, even if a lot of activists and Frontburnerians don't.

Daniel, is the percentage of ethnicity alone sufficient to generate your sympathy for representation--and why ethnicity? What city needs are peculiar to Hispanics that are not germane to others?--or does the percentage of those, of any ethnicity, legally resident there and so legally able to vote really define the voting population?

Because if it's the former, wow, this seems like an easy political power play to pull anywhere. Fill some unlimited guest worker visas (there are plenty available now) with a docile ethnicity, argue that ethnicity alone should define politically dominating a locality, then induce your ethnically dominant politicos to start voting all sorts of zoning and other perks favorable to you. Wait, that's how it's done now, isn't it? It's called identity politics, and it's the easiest kind to manipulate at will.
