Last Friday night, I was getting ready to go out of town when a very interesting email came through the pipes. Deion and Pilar Sanders were hosting an event later that evening for their non-profit organization, Sanders Claus, and they were expecting some very VIP attendees:
Per the couple’s spokesperson, A-list Celebrities are expected to be in attendance to include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Will & Jada Smith, Denzel Washington, Morris Chestnut, Samuel L. Jackson and more.
Of course, I ran into Tim’s office and we giggled about the absurdity. But then, we thought, they might really be there, and we could potentially start a bidding war over the photos between Us Weekly and In Touch. A photographer was dispatched. Jump for the rest.
Guess what? They didn’t show.
So I wanted to know: what’s with the oversell? I mean, Tony and Jessica, okay, maybe. But Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt? Will and Jada? Denzel? Come awwwn. I called the PR. She explained that early on Friday, she was asked to help get media to the party by Pilar Sanders’ people. They were the ones who said Brangelina et al would be there. “I kept asking them, are you sure?” she said. “But they kept saying they would be there.” (Also, the PR saw Morris Chestnut at Good Day Dallas that very morning, so she knew he was in town, at least). So, the press release was sent out, and the party came and went. A few Cowboys showed (Nate Newton, Pacman Jones, Larry Brown), but none of the A-listers arrived. “I’m assuming these are the people who were invited, but not confirmed,” the PR explained. So…did Pilar think these people were coming, or was she just trying to get more people to the event? And if it worked, is it really such a bad thing? It was for charity, after all. Either way, I’m totally stealing the strategy. My birthday is coming up in January, and if I tell everyone Gordon Keith will be there, maybe all the guys in the office will show. Fingers crossed.
And I’m still trying to find out if Luda showed to T.O.’s party last night. Anyone?
Ricky from Boyz N the Hood is enough of a draw for me.
Mr. Luda-Chris was at the Mavs game…I can say that.
This reminds me of Housewives of Atlanta.
Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
What a sad thing to do to a pr person.
Pilar should be ashamed.
I agree with skippy. Bad Pillar, bad, bad, bad! PR folks hate to be made to look like liars when they believe they’re telling the truth.
