Fluor CEO: Economy May Not Turn Up Till 2011

Alan Boeckmann, CEO of construction/engineering giant Fluor Corp. and a former D CEO cover boy himself, had some kind words for another one during a luncheon speech today in Dallas. “I was glad to see Tom Leppert on the cover of D CEO as CEO of the Year,” Boeckmann (at left) told the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth at The Adolphus Hotel. “I was also glad to see him retire as head of Turner Corp., which is one of our competitors!” Boeckmann, who’s a global leader in fighting corruption in international commerce, told the assembled about the connections between worldwide corruption and the current economic crisis. So, how long does he think the crisis is likely to last? “A lot longer than people think,” Boeckmann said before his talk. “I don’t think we’ll hit bottom until 2009; then it may be 2010 or 2011″ before things start to improve.
