AmREIT, the company that owns Casa Linda Plaza, wants to know what you think if you live near the shopping center. Me, I’d like a CVS and an Old Navy and a Dollar General. If that’s not doable, I’ll settle for a decent pub.
53 Comments to “What Do You Think About Casa Linda Plaza?”
For what it’s worth, I think Casa Linda could use another bank.
Lake Parker@ December 2nd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I’d like to see townhouses put in from the old Eckerds spot to Poppy/Athlone and then 1-2 stories of apartments above the stores on that side of the shopping center. That would give the always vacant store fronts over there a chance to fill up with dry cleaners and other small, daily life sort of things.
I’d also like to see both sides of Losa developed more densely as residences instead of vacant low grade office space that’s only used by politicians for 3 months every other year.
Other than that it has a gym, a grocery store, a pet store, a coffee place, a movie rental place, a couple of chain restaurants and a couple of local restaurants. Aside from changing the liquor laws and allowing a few bars in the Plaza, I don’t see what else there’s demand for. The shopping center has too many store fronts (compare it to Lakewood for example), unless the mindset of what a shopping center is changes it will always look half empty. But I know AmREIT has invested heavily in trying to get it to make a comeback. Maybe Gap will return like in the early 90s?
JB@ December 2nd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I live behind Casa Linda and it definitely needs a Pub/Sports bar/German Beer Garden. Also, I thing a “flying fish”/”Fish City” or some type of seafood restaurant would be good there as its locale is near a large body of water. A gourmet food market/boutique/ Wine&Cheese shop might work there (Albertson’s just doesn’t cut it), I suppose a “World Market” would do. The biggest score in Dallas or even Texas would be to get a “Trader Joes” in there though.
You forgot the Ross Dress for Less, Tim. And do you want a Dollar General, or a Dollar Tree?
Brian Barnaud@ December 2nd, 2008 at 12:45 pm
trader joes will come to Dallas as soon as they put a warehouse here. Unfortunately, I bet when they come (next year) it will be in Frisco and the like….

I live by Casa Linda as well. I have heard the 24 Hour Fitness is closing at some point. I would love to see a bookstore or some nice clothing stores (Ann Taylor Loft maybe). I am hoping the movie theatre
re-opens. The new owners won’t disclose whether it will be a movie theatre or not. There is a new breakfast/egg place going in the old Eckerd’s spot. Does anyone have any idea what is going in next to Chili’s?

You people do realize there can’t be a real bar unless the wet/dry laws change right? That’s why all those liquor stores are bunched up 2 miles west by the spillway.
And Tim, do you ever drive down Peavy? 2 drug stores right there, 2 blocks away. There won’t be a drug store in Casa Linda. They can’t have a drive through pharmacy.
Also, there is a Palm Beach Tan there already. Every clothing store there ever has failed. The theater is owned by a separate group. Albertsons barely survives, you think another grocer will come? And book stores don’t open that far from Malls– unless you mean Christian Science book stores, in which case there already is one.
SB@ December 2nd, 2008 at 3:18 pm
What’s the fascination with Trader Joes? Not enough Midwestern bluehairs with bad accents and bad taste at your local supermarket?
@SB: Have you ever shopped at Trader Joes? “Midwestern bluehairs”? Hardly. The greatest concentration of this chain is on the east and west coast. My homegirl that was just in NYC said the Union Square location STILL has lines out the door and it opened ages ago. Bluehairs? Pffft.

When I was in LA, I went to Trader Joe’s. It was OK but not really anything great. The $2 wine was excellent. There probably won’t be any new stores from the Gap company. The ones they have aren’t doing that well. Banana Republic already pulled out of a shopping center in Allen. I would love an Old Navy but Gap have already closed most of the free standing ones. A sprouts would be great.
And you are not getting a CVS either. They had one there and they closed it. Moved up to Garland Road and Peavy.

EJ@ December 3rd, 2008 at 11:19 am
I have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years. I would like to see a Trader Joe’s as well. I visited the Trader Joe’s in San Diego not long ago, and loved many of their products. I think they would fit in nicely with Casa Linda Plaza. I e-mailed them about coming to Dallas, as I’m sure many other Texans and/or Dallasites have.
I would also like to see an ice cream store/parlor. Many of us miss the Braum’s that used to be on the corner of Garland and Peavy (site of CVS now). If they can’t do a Braum’s, which I would prefer, how about a Baskins Robbins, Coldstone, etc?
Also, it would be great to have a Greek restaurant. I have to go to North Dallas when I want to get good Greek food and I would like to be able to get some in my own neighborhood without having to drive so far.
I don’t think any clothing stores will work- seen too many come and go - Gap, Colberts, Lester Melinick (sp?), etc.
Someone mentioned Ross, but they are going into the old Tom Thumb located in White Rock Marketplace (Marshalls, Home Depot, etc.).
bamama@ December 3rd, 2008 at 12:08 pm

You East Dallasites are such delusional dreamers!
Trader Joe’s opening in Casa Linda? That’s hilarious. Why would they go into a marginally successful shopping center that’s not convenient to the rest of the DFW area? Ain’t gonna happen.
And they’ve been using that warehouse/distribution facility as an excuse for at least 10 years. If they wanted to move into our market, they could have a long time ago. I inquired about a Dallas store while in Maryland about 5 years ago, and some regional manager told me that they couldn’t find a good location for the facility. I just laughed and realized that it was a bunch of bull.
