DIRECTV Blimp Over Fair Park?

Anyone know why the DIRECTV blimp would be flying around Fair Park? I can see it from my office window, and Adam called in from the road to express his confusion, too.

  1. Damn, I wish I was home to see this, maybe it will be sticking around tonight to show of it’s neat video screen.

For some reason when blimps are in town they like to hang out over Las Colinas and Fair Park, even when there are not events going on. I have no idea why but I randomly see various blimps floating above Fair Park/Downtown and Las Colinas where my office is several times a year.

  2. I’m an idiot, it just occurred to me why it would be there, I’m sure it is headed to the Cowboys game on Thansgiving, got here early and is just hanging around Downtown for the wider exposure.

  3. I’m fairly sure the Cowboys are playing in Irving tomorrow. And I think the DIRECTV blimp is the one Fox Sports uses.

Maybe it hangs out over Fair Park to stay out of the way of Love Field and DFW traffic?

All this is a guess. I have no direct knowledge. Of much of anything.

  4. If they arrive early for a television project, the blimps like to cruise around the town to get people talking and until their crew catches up via bus. In the past the blimps have been based out of Redbird.

  7. I like the idea of a blimp coming into town early. You know, check out the sights. Maybe get a taste of the nightlife. I have insider information that the DirecTV blimp is staying at Hotel ZaZa and has an 8pm reservation at Dragonfly.

  8. I have nothing to offer in the form of an answer to your question. However, I saw the same blimp hovering over eastern Kaufman County yesterday. Needless to say, you don’t we a lot of blimps out here.

  11. The blimp is here to show the Cardinals/Eagles game that’s being broadcast tomorrow night on the NFL Network and not available locally on cable. The blimp has a huge 70′ x 30′ screen on the side to show the game to the masses. This is a PR stunt in the ongoing pissing match with Time Warner/Comcast who refuse to carry NFL Network on their basic tier but want it only on the premium tiers.

They’ve been doing this for more than a year now. Pretty clever if you ask me, although I can’t imagine anyone sitting out in their backyard trying to actually watch it. It’s more like a giant middle finger from DirectTV.

  12. The blimp just updated his Facebook status to read:

  15. Celebrity Spotted: a FrontBurnervian in the field reports that the DIRECTV blimp is at Al Biernat’s right now, accepting, at Danny’s insistence, just a “half drink” more.

  16. Shouldn’t a blimp be sponsored by Blimpie Subs?
    :)

It’s here for the Ennis v Rockwall Heath game.
