The GOP's top-ticket candidates, except for Emmett, were terrible. Sheriff Thomas acted like he was exempt from the Texas Public Information Act, the incumbent DA was forced to resign in a scandal prior to the election (discrediting many others), and the county GOP, as was pointed out on David's blog, stunk on ice. It has for several years now.

I don't think the GOP is so much rural as it has just conceded the cities. Well, I belong to a growing group of people that have conceded the GOP. Let the evangelicals, porkmeisters, and big-statists have it.

The American Conservative Party is now forming chapters across the nation, including Texas. We intend to fight activism with activism. For more information, visit the website at http://www.americanconservativeparty.org or http://www.texasconservativeparty.org .

Look at the map of Texas based on the Presidential vote. You'll see that Dallas, Travis, Bexar, and Harris all went for Obama.

The Texas GOP is having the same problem as the national GOP: it's becoming a rural party. It has failed to convince voters in the big cities that less government is a good idea. It's very hard to sell that message to anyone when the president and presidential candidate from your party support a bailout plan that makes the government much bigger.

The good news: the GOP has the chance to wipe the slate clean and start the rebuilding from scratch.

Of all the judge races in the county, only four were won by Democrats. What makes it interesting is that the four democrats that lost had first or last names of Mahendru, Mekisha, Pereira and Goodwille. They all lost to Republicans with "normal" names. http://tinyurl.com/5h67c4
