Just Because: Paul Kix vs. Southlake, The Aftermath

A little more than a year ago, we ran Paul Kix’s story about Southlake and its high school football team, the Carroll Dragons. Since then, here is what has happened:

  1. Former Southlake Carroll coach Todd Dodge, who left to take over at the University of North Texas, has gone 2-17.
  2. Riley Dodge decommitted from Texas to play for his dad at UNT. Well played.
  3. Almost immediately after the story hit newsstands, Carroll’s 49-game winning streak was snapped.
  4. Two weeks ago, Carroll’s 38-game district winning streak was snapped, and they dropped from national polls.
  5. Chase Daniel, Carroll grad and previously the presumptive Heisman winner, lost two games in a row at Mizzou, and didn’t look especially sharp in either.

In other words, people of the greater Boston area, if you see “P. Kix” on your caller ID, go ahead and get your affairs in order.

  6. Am I the only one who thinks that Riley Dodge was crazy for playing for UNT? At one time, wasnt he ranked one of the top high school QB’s in the country? He could have played anywhere! I think his dad did him a big diservice by letting him come to UNT. Was he trying to help his dad out? Just curious what anyone else thinks …..

  7. @cocomons No, you’re not the only one — he should have kept his old committment. I think the reason he did it was because he loves his dad and playing for him is one of life’s joys. Trumps anything he thought he’d get out of going to another program.

@Zac Chase had a great media quote a couple weeks ago: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKAbA5AUgtY
