Yes, yes. As has been documented in this space, I don’t have cable. I get my TV for free, over the airwaves, with an antenna. Which is why I can tell you this: for the past hour or so, channels 4, 5, and 8 have been screwed up by a weird broadcast. The broadcast picture comes in clearly on each but on 4, a loud beep; on 5, no sound at all; and the best is 8, whose picture is fine but whose sound is a weather broadcast of some sort. VERY bizarre. All the other broadcast channels work fine.
Did I mention I’ve been smoking peyote and drinking paint thinner? Still, something is amiss with local TV.
Just got home and all is well on both of my tv’s. Is your tv telling you to enter the light?
Turn off your SAP audio channel - that’ll fix the problem, most likely.
buy a new TV and get cable and that’ll certainly fix this, um, problem
applaud your stinginess for holding out and all, but it’s 2008, man…join us
I have been living without cable for 2 1/2 years now its great. When I moved into my new house I put an HD antenna in the attic and programmed all the HD channels in. Most of the local sports end up on a local channel.
If someone mentions something they saw on cable news, I normally can pull it up on DSL and watch a video of it.
No ugly dish to look at and no monthly bill to pay for a bunch of channels I do not watch.
SAP. Awesome. I won’t tell you how long it took me to figure out which button needed to be pressed. This is what happens when your wife goes out of town and leaves you with your children. AV chaos.
Have you converted from Beta to VHS yet?
ummmm…..I…..ahhhh….no….ummmmm….WHO DOESN’T HAVE CABLE!!!!!!??????? GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF MAN!
Tim~ I refuse to pay for cable also. If I had cable, I would then need a Tivo to record the things I have no time to watch and then I would feel pressed to make time to watch. I’ve saved $4000 this century skipping cable. To hear friends, re: my not having cable…I’m a cave dweller whose cost of living is toilet paper and food.
According to the television ratings people, about 50 percent of the homes in the DFW area have pay television. I stopped paying for television when my first child was born 8 years ago. I figured I saved 6 thousand dollars in that time. What gets me is some people who get government assisted living or food stamps also have pay television.
You want ‘em to quit buying TV and start buying crank?
TV is, after all, the opiate of the masses.
Tim, do you have a DTV set or converter box yet? You think your TV reception is bad now, it’ll be non-existant on Feb 18, 2009.
By the way, 79% of homes in the DFW area have cable or satellite. That means that you are in the 21% that don’t.
Tim, you’re becoming predictable. No cable, Prius, horn rimmed glasses next? or the “when I was your age……”?
Audio is a premium feature now, didn’t you get the mailer?
Thanks, all, for the helpful suggestions. I’ll get a converter box and continue to watch free TV in 2009.
Seriously. Why pay for TV when there is Hulu.com?
Welcome to the world of DTV. My guess is the stations are laying with their new toy.
There’s your problem, you chew peyote, you don’t smoke it.
Tim, cable is important. How else do you think Trey learns all that gun stuff? They have channels for that. Yup, sure enough. I was over at a friend’s house and they were watching rubes bait and “stick” deer.
Also on cable they have cooking shows. You could compete with Nancy in a conversation after a couple of weeks emersion in the cooking channels.
They’ve even got book channels. Yup, real writers talking about real writing. It’s like watching radio talking heads and finally understanding “radio face”. There’s a reason they talk about it and aren’t into the doing it so much.
Tim, you’re the first to experience Government Controlled TV. Now I have figured the HD thing and why “they” are converting us. How can they do that? I don’t want to see Jessica’s pimple at the Cowboy game in the Andrew’s box!! Please…
Welcome to 1986 Tim.
Your answer is ether Tim. Drink ether.
