David Feherty will be on Think today at noon to talk about how he got creamed by a truck while riding his bike. The chat is all the more poignant given the death of the cyclist in Richardson earlier this week. If you ride a bike or if you drive a car, you should listen. (photo by Billy Surface)

Great story, well written and dead on!!
I was heading to lunch yesterday and saw a bicyclists get hit two cars in front of me at the intersection of Preston and Dallas Country Club. To his credit, the driver of the car jumped out and ran over to help the guy. Didn’t appear to be anything careless or negligent, though. Just an accident. I heard the ambulance coming a few minutes later, but not sure how badly the cyclist was injured. He was up and limping around when I left.
In. Feherty is funny, smart, insightful, and his story is incredibly compelling to me. Krys is the best interviewer in town, and hot.
Glad you made it, man. Great story, but I am sorry you had to write it. However, when they say “Keep coming back,” I don’t think it means “Get hit by a car again.” Be careful out there!
@ Gordon: I hadn’t read that piece. Thanks for the link.
Feherty’s in the building and all set to appear on the show. He looks good too.
The ignorance of motorists was clearly defined today when listening to that show. Nice job David. And to that dingbat witch who said if she got hit while riding a bike in the street would have no problem with it, you are friggin fat arse liar and full of BS. Bikes have the same rights as cars and we do pay taxes for the roads(lame argument). I commute 29 miles roundtrip daily, North Dallas to downtown. Chill out motorists, it’s the law. Hey Gordo, great interview you and the Musers had with David a while back.
Josh, if you get hit be a meteor it’s an accident.
Anything else is driver error.
Thanks, Idunno. David is a great interview and a fascinating guy. Unfortunately for him, he is also a automobile magnet.
I have debated cycling to work each morning, but the danger keeps me from it. That and the exertion. Plus, I love my car. And cycling is for Jesus-hating French.
@ Gordo. If you ever feel like giving it a try, damn that’s early for you though, stop by here and folks can help you figure out a safe route.

Actually, probably good hours to ride, miss the rush hour. I’ve bike commuted for 6-1/2 years and never been in a wreck or close to one. Give it a go once, can’t hurt.
Gordon: Don’t the dangers of life keep you frozen in fear, generally speaking?
@Idunno: “Bikes have the same rights as cars.”
Yes, and theoretically the same responsibilities. Too bad such so many cyclists seem to feel entitlement is a one-way street.
I live less than two miles from RBM and encounter a lot of riders. About 5% of solo male riders (I’ve never seen it from a woman) are aggressive toward cars. Find a group of men in a pack and the percentage rises sharply.
These people endanger other riders by promoting hate. Spend some time preaching to them along with your “chill out motorists” mantra and we’ll all be safer.
Why is this thread suddenly giving me a raging case of deja vu?
Oh, right: http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2008/09/30/richardson-bicyclist-killed/
@Mark: I live two miles from RBM Richardson and couldn’t agree with you more. Unfortunately the “roadie” types tend to create an unfavorable stereotype for all types of cyclists. The majority of miles I ride come from commuting. Commuters typically see them self as part of traffic and act accordingly. Rest assured, I’ll chastise an idiot cyclist as readily as an idiot motorist.
