ESPN Numbers Guru: Mavs To Go 45-37, Tie For Sixth in the Western Conference

My favorite time of the year is almost upon us: the beginning of the NBA season. I read a ton of basketball writers, but the one I trust the most when it comes to predictions is ESPN numbers savant John Hollinger. His figures, more often than not, are right on the money. So I hope that he’s wrong about the Mavs’ chances this year:

More likely, they’ll end up as one of the “tweeners” in the West — far better than the bulk of the conference, but not nearly good enough to challenge the likes of Houston, Utah and the Lakers for supremacy. If so, let’s just hope it doesn’t lead to any more panic moves.

Unless some “major deal” is pulled off, Hollinger’s predictions seem accurate but I think they will be lucky to get the #8 spot.

I agree. I just don’t see the Rockets as a basketball behemoth (again) just because T-Mac has been streaky in the past two seasons and Yao Ming breaks easily.

wake me when McGrady wins a playoff series…0 for 7 now

as i’ve said before i think JKidd is one of the best PG ever, some disagree…but i think the Mavs will be better this year than last and may be able to win what is probably the toughest division in the NBA and secure no lower than a 3 seed for the “real” season that starts after the regular season

JKidd is one the best PG ever, but he isn’t at that level right now. I can’t wait for another 10 years when the Mavs use another 1st round pick to acquire him. That would be the trifecta and wouldn’t surprise me at all.

  • Hmmmm...

Did they include our soon-to-come acquisition of Karl Malone in these figures?
