Breast cancer’s no laughing matter, but Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano has hit on a way to raise awareness of the disease and have some fun at the same time. Organizers of today’s Pink Pooch Parade at the hospital attracted dozens of Baylor pet-therapy dogs in costume for the third straight year, and awarded prizes in three categories. Full disclosure: My better half (shown here) spent hours making the Pink Shaggy Dog outfit (at left) for our Australian shepherd Faux Marble, who won–along with her half-sibling Nellie, a bearded collie–in the Cutest category. Obviously, BH had way too much time on her hands …
A priest, a monkey, and a woman with stage-three breast cancer walk into a bar –
Oh, wait. I didn’t realize until you pointed it out, Glenn, that breast cancer is not a joking matter.
Never mind.
You can’t just drop Faux Marble on us without an explanation Glenn. Dish.
Jay: You can’t see it under all that pink yarn, but as a puppy her fur (hair?) looked like, well, fake marble. The name was my Better Half’s idea, by the way; I probably would have called her Spot.
The really were the best dressed!
Great to see you there!
It was a fun contest to judge!
Any pictures of the Bearded Collie?
Drew: I’m not smart enough to do it here, but if you’ll send your e-mail address to me at glenn.hunter@dmagazine.com I’ll be happy to send you a jpeg.
The dogs would probably rather go through chemo-therapy than have to dress in such embarrassing accoutrements again.
I was discharged this morning, but AFTER I got to see Faux and Petal Poocher among others. As a BC survivor, go you! Thanks.
Glenn: This is just one example of how your BH is so wonderful…she’s always giving of herself to others.
