A tad late on this, but I did not want to neglect the dispatch of intern and Lois-Lane-in-the-making Christine Sracic, who attended the Big Tex raising today at Fair Park this morning. More photos and her report follow after the jump.
Dallas’ favorite cowboy made his grand appearance today in Big Tex Circle at Fair Park. Big Tex, the famous 6,000-pound behemouth that greets fairgoers with his Southern-drawled “Howdy, folks,” was unveiled for the 2008 State Fair of Texas. Big arrived dressed and ready to impress, with a brand-new wardrobe courtesy of his personal outfitter, Dickies. Considering he’ll be standing in the same spot for nearly a month, facing rain, wind and camera flashes, it’s only true to form that Big Tex needs him a good pair of Dickies blue jeans, since those “won’t fade on the job,” right? In case you weren’t aware, he actually does wear clothes—they’re not painted on, like his face is. And his shirt? That’s the yellow trend-right Western-style button-up. Apparently, if you’re seeking fashion inspiration from Big Tex, you can buy the clothes he wears for yourself. We can’t guarantee people won’t stare while you stand next to your matching giant, but that’s your call.
The 52-foot-tall cowboy requires clothing that is 600 times the size of a regular Dickies sample. Almost everything on the boy (well, 50-year-old man, but, you know) is brand-new. New shirt, new Twisted X boots (which could fit an NBA player inside of them), and a new painted belt with a fancy buckle, which also happens to have his name on it this year (how Western-gangster).
It wasn’t easy raising Mr. Big, either. It took a crane and a large group of Dickies-clad men to put him in his place. Here’s a little dish for the day: he’s feetless. Two iron rods take the place of his would-be dogs. Those rods are “drilled” into the ground, then the boots, which are actually broken up into four pieces, are placed around the iron bars, where it appears as though his jeans are neatly tucked in. Talk about high-maintenance.
Heh, heh, heh. Nice headline Stacey.
600 times the size of a regular Dickies Sample?
Me thinks your math is off. Unless the new Big Tex is the size of the Cotton Bowl.
I always look forward to Big Tex’s erection because Fall is my favorite time of year.

Wow, he’s big!
Has anyone ever told you Randy that you look like Big Tex?
It’s always so inspiring to see Big Tex’s erection – especially considering he’s 50! Way to go old boy, quite impressive. Is there a more sure sign of fall’s arrival?
that’s what she said
He’s erected 600 times the size of a regular Dickie? Wow.
