Dallas Was Elemental To Esquire’s E-Ink Cover
Okay, not really. But it does give me an excuse to talk about the whizzbang cover of the 75th anniversary issue of Esquire. In case you hadn’t heard, it’s the first to use E-ink, which means the cover lights up. (You can see a demo video here.) Dallas’ Structural Graphics was one of many stopping points in the process of how it was made.
To be honest, I expected the E-ink cover to be a bit … more. Like, I thought it’d cycle through a bunch of coverlines, making editors’ jobs easier (”Which cover line is best? The question is moot. Let’s do all of ‘em.”) But I’m sure that technology is on its way. (The cover at left is the prosaic subscriber version that I’ll likely get in the mail today.)
