1. Not very Texas-y, but I think FB readers care to know that Obama has picked his running mate, but won’t say who. Exclusive FB odds: Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (2-1), Hillary Clinton (8-1), Ron Kirk (3000-1), rising Dem star and Texas Rep. Rafael Anchia (4000-1), closet Obama supporter Wick Allison (better than you’d think, buddy).

2. Shocking, absolutely shocking news: in the wake of stats that show animal control officers responded to more dog-bite calls involving pit bulls than any other breed (that’s the shocking part, and, yes, being sarcastic), North Texas cities like Mesquite are considering more stringent dog laws.

3. Nastia Liukin arrived in Texas from Beijing yesterday, where she was greeted by cheering crowds, questions about her boyfriend status (she doesn’t have one: there were more cheers), and an inquiry as to where she would keep her Olympic medals. If you had, “in her purse,” you win the office pool.

  10. Seriously, I’d be interested in hosting the first Twitter-off of the Nastia Liukin parade in Parker for next Saturday, Aug. 30. With several people Twittering the event all at once, wouldn’t that make for Twittelating conversation? Anyone know Nastia close enough to get her in on the Twittering, too? How about Carly Patterson? Anyone from ASI locally who could help us here? There is a place for Twitter here, and maybe this is a way to make it improved. Any one in? @daddyclaxton on Twitter.
