Zac Crain Retains Music-Crit Cred With Review of Ozzfest

The way I read The Mayor’s review of Saturday’s metalhead extravaganza at Pizza Hut Park, he can still get his rock-scribe on when he needs to. And apparently he needed to at Ozzfest, primarily because he was writing said review for Rolling Stone’s web site. (Well, well.) Warning: Adult language in the lead and thereafter. Spoiler alert: it also includes a laugh-out parenthetical. Sub-point: It’s in the spoiler alert. Also, he penned a quick review of the Dimebag Darrell tribute, which you can read here.

  1. Pizza Hit Park?

  2. The headline refers to Texas Stadium, which is in Irving. Probably could use a lower-case “s” on “stadium.”
Is rollingstone.com looking for freelance copy editors as well?

  3. For what its worth, I was there. Loved Serj (guess I am one of the few), Apocalyptica (cellos!), Drowning Pool, Ozzy, and of course the mighty Met. The Dimebag tribute was underwhelming, perhaps because I was in a seat and not on the floor. It didn’t feel intimate and emotional. Zakk Wylde’s solo was egotastic. Also, $4.50 for a bottle of water in 104 degree heat is inhumane. But overall, Ozzfest was money and sweat well spent.
