Obviously Florence Shapiro’s U.S. Senate announcement yesterday was meant to get a jump-start against other possible contenders for Kay Bailey’s seat, if the Senator goes after Rick Perry in 2010. But it may have served another purpose as well. Many Republicans, including me, wanted the Senator to take on Perry in the 2006 GOP primary. For more than a year, she jabbed and feinted, and like now, the early polls showed she would win. But to the deep disappointment of her fans (including me), she backed out. Now she’s making all the same noises, “hinting” that she’ll decide by next year. Big-time Republicans are murmuring that they’ve seen this movie before. Maybe Shapiro decided it was time for someone to rap sharply on the projection room door.
Shapiro says not. She says Hutchison was “excited” to hear about her plans. I think we all know how excited a politician gets when another politician announces she’s going after her seat.

Sure my Anne Boleyn Hutchinson was ‘excited’ to hear Plano Flo’s plans. Like my neighbor was excited this morning when she learned that her 15 yr.old son has a ‘crush’ on the Wentworth Miller lookalike postman and told him so while wearing a neon Speedo.
One thing that hasn’t been explained to me — why would Kay Bailey trade the exclusivity and influence granted to a Senator in order to be a less-visible Governor?
As a service to the women of Frontburner, Rawlins, I have to ask – Wentworth Miller lookalike postman? Where do you live? What time is his route?
Because one of our less-visible Governors became you know, a completely invisible President or something.
As Governor, Señora Hutchison is certain to bring the boilerplate form reply email and letter to its full fruition in the Twenty-First Century by handling all her gubernatorial communication by those means as well. Truly, a cost-cutting measure benefiting every Texas taxpayer!
But first, Señora Hutchison, where are our cabras?

kbh lost any ounce of support i could give her when she took the time to expand on her taxation platform … at my freaking graduation ceremony at smu. full disclosure, i am a democrat and was extremely hung over, but come on. there’s a time and a place for dollar and cents politics and a graduation ceremony ain’t it. even my republican dad was bored to tears.
KBH adopted a baby a few years ago…the gov’s gig has much more family stability. No commuting to DC, limited international travel…and let’s face it, not as much “work.”
I think the subject is Florence Shapiro and Kay Bailey. I may have missed the mail man issue since I only read every other word.
My mail lady/person looks like Flo from Mel’s Diner, just older. Probably another reason my house value isn’t booming. I think I’m going to take a photo of her and use it at next year’s DCAD hearing!
Possible research topic: Can ugly neighbors lower property values?
Forcing her hand to do what?
To El Rey and Bethany’s questions: I live at the Northeast Corner of the Trinity Forest. (Google me IF that is still a ‘foreign land’ despite being closer to Downtown that SMU.) So the mail main in his twenties who has all the women and no few men watering their plants by hand when he delivers is the Piedmont and Urbandale Neighborhoods north of Pleasant Grove.
As for El Rey’s question/concern about the link between good looking people and property values, my next door neighbor Billie is all over that one. A retired truck stop bar owner (Bakersfield), she (who is said to have Alzheimer’s but makes more sense than many) says ALL our “Dallas property values will plummet after the November election when” the White House relocates to Dallas. Of course I simply hold her palsied hand to allay her fears and hopefully comfort her. Yet I too tremble.
(smacking my forehead and shaking head slowly)
I don’t think you all get it. Perry will not run for re-election in 2010. He may say he plans to now, but that’s just so he’s not viewed as a lame-duck in the 2009 legislative session.
Hutchison will likely face David Dewhurst and Roger Williams (among others) in the GOP primary. She may step down from the senate early to make the run. Perry will probably go after her senate seat along with folks like Shapiro, Pete Sessions and others.
Yes, it’s going to be a fun year, but you’re not going to get the Perry vs. Hutchison battle you want. Sorry to disappoint you.
Rusty nailed it.
