It’s Miller (Coors) Time, Irving

Sources in Dallas and Irving city halls confirm that North Texas has just about locked up the U.S. headquarters of MillerCoors. One source has whispered into FrontBurner’s ear that it’s definitely going to North Texas. Into another ear, an insider said: If it’s going to be in North Texas, it’s heading to Irving. Chicago might still have a shot at it, however. (Apparently,  a Chicago Tribune reporter is calling around on this as I type.) Look for an official announcement on this in a week or two.

Lest we forget about AT&T, this would be the second major biz coup for North Texas within two weeks. Go Big D. (”Go North Texas” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.)

If it lands in Irving, shouldn’t it be “Go Big I”?

Maybe MillerCoors and MADD will be neighbors?

Word is there won’t be a brewery — this HQ would be strictly for paper shuffling. They’re still brewing Miller Beer in Fort Worth, though.

If they can wait a year or two, maybe they can buy AMR’s HQ real cheap in a liquidation sale.

    Mike–

Yeah, they could buy it, but there’d be a $25 per office chair surchage added to the price.

  • Brandon

Definitely won’t have a brewery. MillerCoors is simply a joint venture between the 2 companies in order to better distribute and promote their brands so they can take a larger chunk out of AB.

I was in Denver this weekend. Brandon is correct that the relocation will only be HQ operations (about 100 people). One of the interesting things about the JV is that Coors Light will be brewed in all of the Miller plants (including Ft. Worth) in addition to the Golden Facility (Miller beers will also be brewed at Coors plants). So Coors Light will no longer be able to advertise that it’s made with Rocky Mountain water. Coors Original will still only be brewed in Golden Colorado.

A nice bit of irony: MillerCoors headquarters in a city with no retail beer sales.
