  2. It’s adorable, really.

  3. I wish American would let me hand select a few of the people to cut. I’d start with every flight attendant that skips First Class, Pre-fight beverage service. It wouldn’t leave very many people left, but it makes me crazy when they try to look busy, stabbing ice for 20 minutes. UGH!

Bethany-I assume this means were back on!

  4. Poor Tim W. His phone’s gonna be covered in ear sweat today.

    James, you bet, pookie.

  5. You know, Bethany, I have a little foam ear piece on my headset. It’s almost worn through, but it does keep me from sweating out of my earhole. Figuratively, though, my earhole is flowing like milk and honey in the Promised Land.

  6. Tim W., in Leading Off, I made a cost-saving suggestion for AA regarding Waco flights. You just need some old Army planes and some parachutes.

  7. Speaking of breaking news from the DMN, did anyone else notice that Steve Blow had an entertaining, informative column today?

  11. you know it! I’m even wearing my nasty shoes today…just in case.

  12. And the witty repartee flows like airline booze on the red-eye flight.

Kudos to Tim W. for hanging in there with a graceful sense of humor. I flew too long and too much with your employer under the Crandall and Carty regimes to ever fly AA again, unless I’m drinking heavily while accompanying my out-of-control child. Nonetheless, there are a few of you there who manage to rise above with panache. Keep up the good work.

  13. I agree. There are very few company representatives that would openly and willingly appear on several open forums and take all comers – especially since his job probably hasn’t been particularly easy lately.

  14. So I assume Tim W. works for AA? Did I miss something?

  15. Yes, muffin. Tim W. has the sometimes thankless job of explaining what just happened.

    @ 1:40 pm on June 26, 2008
  16. Yeah, as a spokesman, there’s so much to be thanklessly explaining for the last few months, and every day those hits just keep on a-comin’. (For The Record swallows his AA cynicism long enough for a properly manly, group hug; dissolve to happy kids skipping down the sidewalk, sounds of cheery elevator music, etc.)

  17. I’m trying United in two weeks for the first time. Any thoughts from anyone on that airline. I just signed up for their F.Flyer program.

  18. Yes. Take me with you.

  19. I’m going to Nebraska…Trust me, you don’t want to go on this trip. Maybe the next one.

  20. Don’t fly on United! That’s just silly. If you’re going to let anybody abuse your body, mind, and wallet, you should at least keep your money here. In Chicago they’ll just spend it on tofu “foie gras” and hot dogs with all sorts of grotesqueries on top. These are the guys whose post-bankruptcy business plan was based on $50 oil – and it was already $55 at the time. My proposed new slogan – “We’re not perfect, but we’re not United.” Huh, whadya say?

  21. How about “American Airlines, We’re Grounded in Your Future.” You’ve got a good sense of humor for a corporate suit.

  22. Well, I’ve had it with all those rotten ol’ b**** at AA (sorry, not you..I don’t know you) but I used to fly so much, I can’t remember the last time I’ve flown into DFW and was able to pull right up to the gate. Now every time you have to wait 20+ mins for a gate, when you parked right in front of it. I’m always like, “Hello…where you not expecting us?” I figure since United is in one terminal, I’ll always take out of and return to the same terminal. I heard their food is better and they without fail give “pre-flight” drinks in first. I’m big on that one. I’ve been Plt. on AA for years and it’s time to see what else is out there. Now, I may be back, but everyone else is goanna have to suck REAL bad.

  23. please please please forgive me! I just got off my first united flight and it’s was a total nightmare. 100% Not impressed. I’m eating my words now. I only hope, “for the record” will see this. Please forgive me.
