I’m not sure if Wick got tickets to see “The Oldest Living Graduate” at the Contemporary Theater this weekend or not. (He didn’t text me all weekend. Weird.) But anyway, if he didn’t manage to score any, he has more time. Yesterday, the theater announced its plans to extend the show’s run until July 6, with a special July 4th performance followed by a “Texas-style after-show party.” Jump for full details.
through July 6, 2008
In response to rave reviews and strong demand for tickets, Contemporary Theatre of Dallas will extend the run of The Oldest Living Graduate by Preston Jones. This popular and critically acclaimed comedy-drama, which opened June 6, will now continue through July 6, adding four shows to the run, including a special Fourth of July performance followed by a Texas-style after-show party.
The play is taken from the same Texas Trilogy that includes Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander, which CTD produced to great success and acclaim during the 2006-7 season. The Texas Trilogy, which included The Last Meeting of the Knights of the White Magnolia along with Lu Ann Hampton, was developed and had its world premiere at the Dallas Theater Center in 1973 and 1974, then played in repertory at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 1976. When the Trilogy went to Broadway (also in 1976), it won Drama Desk Awards for outstanding new play and for director Alan Schneider.
CTD will complete the Trilogy with a production of The Last Meeting of the Knights of the White Magnolia during the 2008-2009 season.
The Oldest Living Graduate includes adult language and mature themes. We rate it “PG-13.”
