Bill Engvall Is An Aspiring Cover Model

Photo courtesy of Bill EngvallUncle Barky Ed Bark caught up with comedian Bill Engvall star of (coincidentally) The Bill Engvall show. Engvall graduated from Richardson High School and cut his comedic teeth here, to borrow the phrase Bark used. Dallas, for him, is not forgotten. He tells Bark how much he loves it here. And then there’s this:

For now he lives with his wife and two kids in Manhattan Beach. But Engvall still pines for a defining seal of approval. In his view, that would be nothing less than the cover of D Magazine. Honest.

“They’ve written little blurbs on me and stuff, but I would like to have that cover,” he says. “It kind of shows that you have made it, and you are a Dallasite. There’s a great deal of pride for me in being from Texas. I make no bones about it.”

I was one of the writers who wrote a little blurb about Engvall, when he came back in town for his 30th high school reunion. He’s a super nice guy. Cover-worthy? We’ll see.

  3. Dallas, for him, is not “forgotten.” Once a copy editor, always a copy editor.

  4. I love Dallas. But if I could live in Manhattan Beach, I wouldn’t look back too much.

  5. He is certainly cover worthy, but then he would be subject to the D Magazine cover jinx. Or is that Sports Illustrated???

  9. Maybe he can share the cover with other noted RISD-educated celebs like Lane Garrison. Lane’s the actor that went from Prison Break to actual prison. Life imitating art! Both Lane and Jessica were from Pearce H.S., the arch-rival of Richardson H.S. (Or at least it was in the 80’s and early 90’s.) After PHS dropped to a 4-A that may have died. Sad if that’s the case as that battle for the naming rights of MUSTANG-Eagle stadium and domination of Coit Road was really fun.

Last bit of RISD-celeb trivia: both Robert Tilton and Gordon Keith went to RHS, too.

  10. My sincere apologies to Mr. Rogers and Mr. Engvall and his fans. I thought he was the
    “get ‘er done” guy.

I am not familiar with his work but he must be cool if he is pals with Ed Bark.
