I’m risking my job here by, according to one editor around here, turning FrontBurner into an online swap meet so please take a quick minute to read my tale (tails?). Yesterday I was hammering away on the old keyboard and minding my own business when some *&%$er dropped a load of puppies into the lake in
front across from my house. OF COURSE I was the only human within 30 miles so OF COURSE I drove across to the other side of the lake and jumped in and fished them out. Now they are back in Dallas and ensconced in the paw print luxury of the recently constructed Poochie Peninsula Hotel in my back yard. They have a new rubber swimming pool, dog house with gauze curtains, plush accent pillows, and chew toys. Thursday they will be checked by the vet, given their shots, and be ready for you. Help me help them. Jump for pictures and details. Hurry, Timmy might take this post down.
There are two males and one female. The all brown is the alpha male. All three are very well adjusted considering their former owner tried to murder them. They are not shy and very friendly. The female is smaller and shier. The middle-sized male is the most curious and his tail wags the second he spots you. If you are interested, e-mail me by clicking on my name at the bottom of the post. AND PASS IT ALONG. I am already attached and I already have two dogs.
Paco (brown male), Frankie (black male in back), June Bug (female in front)
I appauld your good deed. Paco has quite a set of ears on him. What is he, part dingo?
OOooooo, those doggins are just so cute in their cuteness!!
If I didn’t already have the Love of My Life then I would grab one of these up right quick!
Can we spade/neuter the person responsible?
No “sack of kittens” jokes, please.
What sort of amphibious car do you have, Nancy, that it can drive across a lake? Color me jealous.
sind sie deutsch, Ich denke
What? He actually dropped them in the water? People like that are the scum of the earth. I won’t go into details of what I would love to do to that subhuman POS but I hope at the very least that he gets bit by a rabid dog.
With that said, “Way to go, Nancy!”
Tim, I drove a boat. And microdermer, Dingo is his alternate name. In fact, now it’s his real name.
I missed something…
“in front of my house”
“drove across the lake”
you must have a really big house.
I meant “spay”, of course…
I have a small house on a small private lake. It is really a big pond about 200 yards wide. My house faces the lake which I drove around. Now, can we stick the points here. Lordy.
I thought I loved Nancy for her foodie stuff, but now that I know she’s also an animal lover, I’m wondering if there’s a husband in that small house on a small private lake?
No husband but there is a mortgage.
Did you see the waste of humanity that did this? Why I outta…
Great job, Nancy!
Nice deck.
Bravo Nancy! The world could stand to have a few more people like you.
My heart goes out to you. In the last seven years, I have rescued over 30 starving, injured, abused and dumped dogs and cats.
The first was a cattle dog mix who had it’s back ripped off, and was left tied to a pole for four days with NO medical care. She was in the back yard of crack dealer who lived in one of the many run down rent houses the Andres Brothers had in East Dallas.
A neighbor pointed her out, and I decided that someone had to rescue her…I just didn’t plan on it being me.
I called a reporter friend, who arranged to have a vet take care of the dog for free, I am always grateful to Dr. Angus McDonald, who took that dog from death’s door… and turned her into a happy and loving pet.
I have cared for dogs after fights, dogs with mange…and dogs so starved, and abused…that even the folks from the Humane Society thought we were wasting our time.
Caring for a dog, and finding them a good permanent home is some of the most rewarding work I have ever done.
And as for the suggestion that the pet dumping issue is primarily an illegal alien.
Where I live far off the main road in the country, I have seen people of every racial makeup dumping their unwanted and abused animals.
My friend Larry Powell always used to say :”People are no damned good…Women are slime, and Men are worse”.
That phrase is never more true than when discussing animal abuse.
Nancy, you are absolutely kind and amazing to do this. THANK YOU.
Nancy, you should provide the local paper with all the information, truck color, anything you saw, maybe they’ll publish it in the area, someone must know of someone who recently had a bunch of puppies that all of a sudden disappeared. Nothing like public humiliation for revenge.
We’d take one, but have recently bumped up our canine brood from one to three after a Mother’s Day visit to Operation Kindness, much to my hubby’s chagrin, but puppies Duece and Tres are growing on him.
My only time-saving tip is to just leave a mop in a bucket nearby, someone is always making a mess. Oh, and a metal puppy pen to keep them from chewing up anything….make that everything.
Can you let us know what breed or mix they are after the vet trip tomorrow? I might consider taking one of them, but with a townhouse/condo, I would worry about their natural instincts to be outside in a yard. I don’t want to “trap” a dog inside a crate all day if he/she wants to run around outside.
Let’s link this up with PegasusNews also. These are good doggies. Let’s help Nancy out. When I have found (dumped) pups in the park near me, she has helped me find homes. And take it from me, rescues are the best dogs of all. And mixed breeds the best bet for great gene pool and recessive DNA immunal issues. Trust me. http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/mar/26/best-breed/
It looks like they are at least half German Shepherd. Nancy, you are to be commended.
Your Karma is well into the positive now, Nancy. Timmy will not dare risk the negative Karma taking this down would generate!
I refuse to say how much negative, evil Karma someone has gained for their actions. Just look for the smoldering pile and lightning bolts…

What’s wrong with people? I’m more and more beginning to believe that people are generally cruel and stupid while dogs give unconditional love and support regardless of how they’re treated. A tip of the hat to you, Nancy. I wish we had space to add another to our pack.
Look. Everybody loves Nancy and knows she’s doing a great thing. (Again) But she needs more than our congrats and more ‘good karma’ here. Having been in her position I know, it gets realllllly overwhelming in a heartbeat. I’ve emailed these photos and Nancy’s email address to 100 people. Many of them will in turn do the same. Whadaya bet we land on our paws here and then carry Nancy down Midway Road on a makeshift converted chaise lounge sedan chair. Let’s work on our email distro list and help her asap. I am currently lobbying for my friend Carol to adopt the fluffy on on the right. Carol! Carol!
Nancy, thanks for caring and rescuing the beautiful trio. If I didn’t already have 3 large lab mixes I’d take one of the puppies in a heartbeat. With Larry Powell’s readers I’m sure you’ll get some adopters soon.
As for pet dumpers, just a couple of months ago we were looking at model homes in Heartland, TX, just off I-20 on 741, when a white, nicely dressed man, in a really nice truck drove up, parked at the lake across from the model homes, took his beautiful cattle dog out of the truck and drove off with the dog chasing after him just as fast as his legs would run. The poor dog finally stopped, hung his head walked back to the spot where the truck had been and laid down…no doubt thinking his master would return. It literally broke my heart. The dog had been well cared for and had a beautiful bandana on his neck with his tagless collar. I can only think the lazy @&(#*^ thought someone in a nice neighborhood would take the beautiful dog in thus saving himself from having to find a home for a wonderful dog he no longer wanted. Luckily, one of the sales people did take the dog in and it has a wonderful home now. Some people really are scum of the earth…very disgusting to know humans can behave that way.
Human beings are cruel and stupid. Assembly excepted, of course.
Don’t lobby Carol too vigorously, Rawlins. A little birdy tells me that June Bug is generating interest on her very own.
Nancy, I cannot believe you have these relatives of our puppy!!! Yours at least do not have a broken leg like mine that is in a pink cast….I will pass this on.
i am interested in the female. where are you located? i’m a dog fanatic and only have 1 right now.
please advise
Linda, e-mail me at nancyn@dmagazine.com and I’ll keep you posted on their progress. They are all going to the vet for baths, shots, and check up tomorrow. Friday will be adoption day.
Nancy, do you remember the time you found these babies? I found an identical female, Stella June (aka Olympia), Sunday a.m. around 6:45ish in front of our place. This one has to be of same litter. Fortunately, Jan Myers & Francis Robertson adopted this 2 month old. If related, they are sweet, intelligent, & loveable, and much better off with new owners!
I found them at 4:00pm on Monday. Same litter for sure. Frankie is sleeping in my lap right now. Amazing how sweet, intelligent, and loveable they are considering their upbringing. If I could I would keep them all.
