American Airlines Takes It In the Gut (Again)

Ad Age takes a look this morning at the PR hit American has taken for charging that $15 for every checked bag. Somebody I know who works PR for the airline said that last week was the toughest he’s seen since taking the job. Then comes this: a 180-page letter to the airline written by Benjamin R. Ford, who missed his daughter’s wedding because of a canceled flight. And the letter is being published by Houghton Mifflin. (Okay, okay. It’s actually a novel, whose author, Jonathan Miles, is enjoying a bit of good timing.)

This is not _ NOT _ a defense of AA and its bucks-from-baggage strategy.
However, Mr. Rogers, it’s not $15 for EVERY checked bag. Some of us lucky folks with the correct plastic cards won’t have to pay the luggage ransom.
