Mr. Price,

Keep doing what you are doing and shake them haters off! If anybody has a problem with what Price is doing then do something about it and not just talk about it. May God continue to bless you Mr. Price.

WOW!!!

Ms. Meyer,

Why is it when one man steps up to the plate to make a difference he has a "huge ego". Freddie Haynes, John Wiley Price just to name a couple oh I forgot they are African American men. I am not trying to play the race card because they stand up for other races as well. For your information Price has done things in the community that people dont see. Like getting air conditioning units fixed in schools so that our kids wont have to sweat it out. I have mentored at 6 DISD schools and personally heard where the media has contacted Price for interviews. So they seek him and not the other way around.

Louisa Meyer
I took the time to go online to check the DMS to ask about the date of the Bill Cosby visit and the 1000 man meeting. Just for the record those events were totally seperate! After calling around I met someone who went to both - he stated that the Cosby event was attended by mostly women - so, I think you should give credit were credit is due. Ron was able to motivate African American men to step up. CNN/NBC World News credits him for starting the national movement for outlawing saggy pants around the Nation, and introducing the uniform policy for DISD. Also, I just found out that he mentors about twenty students in his district(is it ego - or confidence), and that the Principals in his district - express that he's one the most supported persons that thet ever met. Have you called Marian Willard or Leslie William? I went on the DISD website to check out his bio - due you know the guy created the National African American School Board Members Summit. He must be really lucky to have so many High rated schools in his district compared to his fellow board members? I looked at the Allen Gwinn website - isn't this the same guy who attack Ron Kirk, John Wiley Price and other African American leaders? What's Gwinn's motive in attacking Black leadership? I heard that someone accused this guy of looking under little girls dresses near Hill Middle School? I don't know Ron Price personally, but I look into the Facts not personal agenda's

Jeff - I think the crowd of potential mentors was drawn by a visit from Bill Cosby. It'd be standard practice though for Ron to take credit. As best I know, Ron did start the district Teen Board and Pearl Guard at Anderson M.S.

My complaint with Ron is his HUGE ego - it's all about him. As noted above, he's responsible for the schools successes instead of praising Leslie Williams and Marian Willard. When a school (or track) needs a repair, Ron, the long term trustee knows whom in the district to call. But he's more likely to call the media so to draw attention to himself. I could go on but Allen Gwinn has the best live chRONicle of self promotion and fantasies http://www.dallas.org/node/146

I also might not call Ron the worst. He's got two strong contenders for that place. And when Lois Parrot was still on the board, I would have put her in "the bottom three" with Brashear and Blackburn. Finally, today's board is exemplary compared to all the boards during my tenure as a parent. Let's not forget the Peavy years. No. Let's do.

Lawrence
I to have watched Mr.Price on several news channels doing something good for the community. I remember about two years ago when he held a 1000 man meeting and close to 2000 men showed up, and when he held a joint press conference with the crips and blood to stop the killing in the south - we haven't heard of any negative things about the crips and bloods for a while. How many local elected officals can ask for that many men to help mentor inner-city boys and they show up!!

It's important to understand that what Jay Mathews and Newsweek are attempting to measure is how well schools are increasing the rigor for AVERAGE students. The BEST schools, according to that measurement, are those that encourage AVERAGE students to take AP classes and AP exams. Frankly, I applaud, in a very big way, the schools on the list for doing just that! As Mathews says himself, it is in am imperfect measurement, but it's a great start. I firmly believe that any kid who wants to take on the challenge of an AP class should be allowed to do so. I have had teachers tell me that often "those average" kids are the hardest working students and are often the most successful ones in their AP classes.

Mr. Rogers,

The Honorable Ron Price is the best thing to hit DISD. It is funny how nobody comments on the good things that Mr. Price does. You can walk down any hall in DISD and mention the name Mr. Price and the kids know exactly who is. Mr. Price has been elected President to two national school board organizations and President to one state board organization. It is obvious that people around the nation think much more of our local hero than his own hometown people. I personally have seen Ron Price on CNN twice, NBC nightly world news, Fox Hannity and Colmes and Fox and Friends. He is the only elected official in Dallas that people of all races have heard of and you call him the worst. Just watching the school board meeting on line all four of his major High Schools in his district have won championships that sounds like the BEST to me. When teachers and parents have a problem, they call Mr. Price.

Tim
After reading your comments I felt like I should respond to some of your mean spirited comments about Mr. Price. In 2000 Ron worked with businessman Harold Green to open W.B. Travis Magnet Middle School in his district, did forget or did not know that Mr. Price worked with the late Lee Posey to bring the first all Girl public school in Texas - which is also in his district. Did see channel 8 story Monday night in which Mr. Price is working with the Dallas Police department to open up a high school police academy at James Madison High School in his disrtict. The people in district 9 has a elected offical who represents all of the people,
parents from lake wood, south dallas, and pleasant groove all call Mr. Price and he calls everybody back. He visits all of our schools and community meetings when we call him, so we enjoy of board member and or four state champions at all four of his High Schools.
