1. There is a $50 million gap in the city’s budget. It may actually be more because that number is based on expectations that property tax revenue will rise by five percent. Since city staff is pushing for more cops and a few other things (such as the purchase of hats to hold the eff on to), that means cuts. Lots and lots of cuts. I’ll go ahead and say it again for the record: thank god I’m not the mayor. But if I were the mayor, I would suggest everyone around the horseshoe watch The Secret of My Success, starring Michael J. Fox. There is a message there.
2. Is this the end of The Carsonist(s)? I guess. Maybe. Just feels anticlimactic. Still waiting for the big piece on this by the DMN, by the way.
3. Lawrence Michael Gibbs, Jr. got two years in the joint for rolling over his mother (twice) in a U-Haul. He got jail time not because he hit his mom, since that was an accident, but because he left the scene, which was a hospital. Which he was in because he hurt his shoulder loading the U-Haul. Which was why his mom was there. So the move was already pretty bad before he accidentally killed his mom.

I hate that huge, ugly entrance ad that blocks you from seeing any DallasNews content for 10 seconds. It’s one thing if the ad only shows up the first time you visit the homepage, but before EVERY article page? Really? Then, when you hit the “back” button it takes you to the Dallas News home page, not the site you came from.
Worst. Website. Ever.
DCAD really bumped up commercial RE valuations this year. They are all coming down. They’re insane. Property tax rev is not going up 5%.
$50 Million shortfall in city budget, huh? Gee, I’m sure glad we’re wasting money on “signature bridges”. For the last 45 years, the City of Dallas has had lousy city government and city management.
so we’re $50 million in the hole, but we CAN afford a $500 million hotel???

WebSavvy, just install Firefox and AdBlock. Then all you see is a blank page with a continue link. I agree – their website is the absolute worst for basic navigation, but AdBlock fixes a lot of their other evils.
I second that! Thank gosh you are NOT the mayor, Zachary! I wouldn’t have all my flower beds so perfectly turned b/c you’d be so busy balancing the budget, vetoing (SP?) bridges and taking smoke breaks.
And, yes, the DMN link is super irritating. Why can you not hit the back button? Another reason to dislike the DMN.
