OT: Anyone Gotten Their Gubmint Scrilla Yet?

So Mr. Eric and I were just griping to each other: the stimulus package was a cheap political ploy. Real stupid. That said, on a personal level, where’s my money? When I TurboTaxed back when, the Intertubes told me my rebate check would be deposited, oh, about a week ago. Eric, he’s in worse shape than I. Based on the assumption that he’d have money in his account by now, he used his credit card to buy the entire P90X box set, with the decoder ring and everything. Now the bill has come, and he can’t afford it.

So what’s the story? Any FBvians get their free cheese yet?

  1. Not me, and according to the IRS schedule, I should’ve gotten it May 9.

  2. Got mine on Tuesday. Then again, I sent in my return in February (it helps having your CPA in the family).

  3. Got Mine Friday Morning, I paid some bills, filled up the cars, got roses for all the moms, spent the rest on Pizza Hut and Margaritas for Dinner.

  5. nothing here yet

plan to spend most of it on top-shelf tequila and cheap whores and then blow the rest

  6. My girlfriend got her stimulus money last week. However, if your AGI is over $75,000 you will get phased out of it eventually (at $87,000). Check those tax documents one more time, maybe you make too much money.

  7. The early stuff was bunk unless your SSN ended in 00. I got mine today and it was scheduled for the 16th. A whole day early. Woo.

FYI- I did my taxes in Feb and did it electronically with direct deposit which I think makes a difference.

  8. um, I’d bet most of the D Mag demo is not getting a check, but thanks for reminding me. Then again, scoreboard on income.

  9. The P90x system is a crutch for weak-willed panty-wastes. Seems perfect for Tulsa Celeste.

  10. Got mine on May 9th. Went straight to savings. I’m a saver, not a spender.

  11. Aaron, can I borrow some money?

  12. Looks like those of us who got to contribute more to the cause (i.e. had to write Uncle Sam a check instead of getting a refund) don’t have the option of the early payday.

Oh well, I’ll be that much happier when I get my check in mid-July and the rest of you cotton-headed-ninny-mungens have blown yours. Shout out to those who get the quote. I’m looking at you, Adam.

  13. Got mine. Timmy I will give you a loan. What’s a P90x?

  14. Got mine last Friday — the last day that the IRS Interwebs site said I would. I’m saving a third and paying off debt with the other third. Just what the terrorists want.

  15. Mine went right in on the 9th.. not early but this was fine. I filed in Feb., electronically.

Spent it on my stupid stupid car. Ok, sorry, car is not stupid, but parts and labor are…

Aaron want to buy Allison and I drinks with your savings!?

    @ 2:46 pm on May 15, 2008
  16. Meant to say paying debt with the other two thirds. As you can see, I manage the government’s money about as well as Mayor Leppert does.

  18. My understanding is that if you e-filed, that is, e-filed directly with the IRS then you should get it according to the IRS schedule. I’ve been told that if you e-filed through a private company like H&R Block, TurboTax, etc, then the IRS will be directly deposit all those at once no matter what your last 2 digits of you SS are. (Probably on May 20).

What is the cheap political ploy? I mean, its not like Bush is running for re-election.

  21. I got your stimulus right here, pal.

Actually, I don’t. And when I get my check, it’s going to cover the taxes I paid with my savings last month!

  22. I’m sending my check to the GOP…looks like they’re going to need all the help they can get in the bloodbath soon be referred to as Black November…pun intended…

  23. Thanks for the info regarding services. I filed mine using TaxAct. But I still don’t have the stimulus. With three kids, I’m looking a nice check that can help us get ahead on tuition for next year. Sorry, Shrub.

    @ 3:33 pm on May 15, 2008
  24. Did you use Turbo Tax or another software that deducts its filing fees from your refund? If so the guvment is going to send you a check in June instead of a direct deposit in May. Wish I knew that before I choose Turbo Tax.

    @ 3:38 pm on May 15, 2008
  25. I used Turbo Tax and I got a direct deposit back on May 2nd.

  27. I got my stimulus rebate today. I submitted my taxes at about 8:00 PM on April 15th. Just under four hours early I suppose… hehe

Glad to have some of my money back in my pocket. The IRS still took plenty though. The average American worked from January 1, 2008 until April 23, 2008, or 113-days to pay their taxes this year. The money wasn’t free for them to take or free for them to give as I worked hard for it.

  28. Eric – you’re from Tulsa? More explanation needed? Swing by my office (read: cube) later and I’ll explain. You’ll have to knock on the door hard (read: walk up to my cube entrance) since I’m currently blasting Mylee Cyrus on my iPod, though.

anywho, good reference and good movie even if watching it makes eric a wuss

  31. I was economically stimulated last week and promptly stimulated the cash registers at NorthPark. Still have a little left over for a weekend or two of drinking and dining on the town.

    @ 4:18 pm on May 15, 2008
  32. Me thinks you make too much money (bastards) if you make over $75,000 you don’t get stimulated, right? That is the rumor I heard.
Me I spent my stimulation on diapers & formula…which are needs after last years version of stimuli.

  34. Amazed at how many of the regulars are getting this rebate check. Granted, the old, stuffy DMag readers aren’t hip the internets, let alone a blog. I thought there would be more than a few people who exceeded the threshold. Guess the 30k millionaire attitude is still alive and kicking.
