Congratulations to Megan Feldman of the Dallas Observer for being nominated for best feature story in the universe by the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. Megan (I’ve imbibed at the Gingerman with her; we’re on a first-name basis) was nominated for her excellent cover story titled “El Tren de la Muerta,” which I believe is Spanish for “the Tren of the Muerta.” The Observer’s art director was also nominated, but I’ve never had a drink with him. Also, Jimmy Fowler, formerly of the Observer and currently at the Fort Worth Weekly, was nominated for an arts feature story. (The FWWeekly was nominated more than once. I decline to go back and count.) If it helps, you should know how low AAN sets the bar for these awards, folks. (Warning: pre-P90X photo included.)
Congrats to Megan. I wrote her at the time, that was an exceptional piece of writing.
Drinks? You buying Mr. Celeste??
(oh, and ugh, that “hot mayor” cover is still like rusty nails on a schoolmarm’s dusty chalkboard – Sorry Simmons, but real flesh and blood is always better than a digital paint-box…)
(just ask “Bruce” over at Unfair Park…)
hotch-cha-cha-chaa!
Thanks, Eric, I appreciate the shout-out. And I gotta tell you I thoroughly enjoyed your clever and honest little diddy on Jessica Simpson. Cheers, Megan
Oh, and they misspelled El Tren De La Muerte…with an a instead of an e. Alas.
The nominated “Ask a Mexican” columns from OC Weekly, by Gustavo Arellano, are hilarious. The glossary is a must read for those needing translation of Mexican curse words.
Bro. but the concept was cool.
