Lakewood Whole Foods Looks Pretty

A helpful, PR-practicing FrontBurnervian passes along the official announcement from Scott Simons, Executive Marketing Coordinator at WF’s Regional office. But, you know, announcement schmannouncement. You want to see pics, right? We’ve got those too. Words and drawings are after the jump.

From Simons:

“The attached 3 renderings were finalized yesterday, so I’m happy to be able to share them. While extremely minor adjustments may be made, these images are extremely close to what the final store façade will look like. Keep in mind they are hand watercolor renderings, so the colors show as a bit washed-out.We are punching holes in the walls to create a lot more natural light, adding dozens of skylights and creating a new façade on the building. The main entranceway will be relocated toward the right side of the building. Just to the left of the main entranceway we’re installing a water feature to enhance the approach to the new Lakewood store. (The water feature shows up well in Rendering #2.)

What this rendering doesn’t show is how amazing the store will be on the inside, but I unfortunately can’t share specifics at this time for competitive reasons. We’ll share in-store specifics about a month from the opening.

I can also share that we’re shooting for a LEED-certified remodel and we’re exploring all kinds of environmentally-sensitive solutions for the store. We’re also renovating the existing landscaping to enhance the neighborhood, among other nice surprises.

We are still set for a January 2009 opening of our Lakewood store and have finalized interior plans. Interior demolition is still set for right after Memorial Day weekend.

Considering the rising cost of food and the already, high cost of food at Whole Foods, how smart is this new store right now? As people look to cut expenses, a trip to Whole Foods might be near the top of that list. Granted, the store is going into the heart (maybe the left lung) of the high-dollar FrontBurner nation. But those pockets aren’t bottomless. IJS.

I wonder if they will stock the 99 cent Austex beef stew Minyard’s featured. Maybe at WF I could find a barbera to go with it..

Higher price of food is worth living a healthier life. And if you shop exclusively at WF, you will find that you actually spend the same if not less…because you don’t buy as much as the traditional grocery store junk. “IJS…….”

It would be nice if they take a page from Trader Joe’s out West and bring in more local produce and products, whenever most possible thus keeping prices down and ensuring fresh quality. Especialyy when it comes to local vineyards/winerys.

If local wines were worth drinking, I’m sure they would.

    Local vineyards? What local vineyards?

Whole Foods has a program dedicated to local produce/products for every region of the country:

love Trader Joe’s. They would make a killing if they opened a store(s) in Dallas to compete with Central Market and WF.

Thanks so much for the update! Can’t wait.
