Not a terribly bold statement, but one made by Tim Kurkjian in the latest ESPN magazine:
Ron Washington’s days as Rangers manager are numbered. Their lousy pitching isn’t his fault, but his old-school approach isn’t working with many players. Never mind that his rapport with players as a longtime A’s coach got him the Texas job.
So there.Ā

That may be, but not before July, according to ace beat writer Evan Grant:

If Evan wrote it, you can book it.
The consensus HSO in the rows surrounding our seats at the May 1 game between the Rangers and Kansas City Royals was that El Jefe, Nolan Ryan, was giving Ron Washington and Jon Daniels just enough rope to hang themselves.
Who takes over as manager? Art Howe?
Granted the rangers dug a hell of a hole in April, but they haven’t allowed a run in three games now. Last night’s game was a real gem with four pitchers contributing to the zero-fest.
They might want to fire him, but it’s going to be tough if they keep winning.
