Donde Esta El Wal-Mart? In Garland.

I heard a segment on Marketplace this morning about the re-opening of Wal-Mart in Garland. What makes it Marketplace-worthy? The store is the first in the chain to target the Hispanic population. The report reported that fresh tortillas will be available, as will Spanish-language music, movies, and games. [Insert Farmers Branch joke here.]

I saw this headline in Quick and figured someone took an article from The Onion seriously. This is a brilliant idea cause I never see any Latinos in Wal-marts, particularly in Garland. I wonder what the “cultural” make overs for the Wal-marts say, in Pleasant Grove, Mesquite, and N. Garland will look like. Well, I guess the Mesquite one will look the same.

I wonder if Tim O’Hare will sell his house and move to Garland now…

  • Huh?

I heard you have to provide a picture ID before making a purchase in the store. This obviously violates the illegal immigrants rights as they don’t have picture ids.

Takes me back to 1940’s Germany.

Is this taking place at the Wal-Mart that used to be Hyper-Mart off Highway 78?

  • CBS

seriously, has anyone been to that Wal-Mart? I was the only one speaking English. I literally had to speak Spanish to checkout (thanks liberal arts!)…not that there’s anything wrong with that.

First in the chain? I guess you’ve never been to the Walmart in Cancun, huh?

    Maybe the first in DFW…

  • Huh?

I would hate to see the lines at those registers around the first and the fifteenth.

Wait, did I just say that?

Oh Adam, you enjoy poking fun at FB and the folks that live there. But many of the folks living in Garland were forced out of neighborhoods like the one you live in — not by a referendum but by skyrocketing home prices.

I wish skyrocketing home prices would hit Garland. Then maybe the city I grew up in wouldn’t look like a third world hell-hole. Mexicans have turned Garland into a punchline.

I’ve been to this Wal-mart, and it has pretty much the same vibe as every Wal-mart - most of the employees don’t speak English and everything is crap.

There are more Americans in the Puerto Vallarta Wal-Mart than in the Garland one.
