A helpful FBvian sends this scary email along:
Just an fyi. A friend of mine was at Bodega [Bar] the other night and parked underground in the parking lot for Travis Walk. Upon leaving Bodega, several guys dressed in chefs attire accosted his girlfriend, held him at gun point, and then beat him senseless. Anyway, not trying to make anyone paranoid but be careful in that underground lot if you park their for the restaurants.
I love this bar and often park underneath, since it’s free. Guess I’ll be looking for a new parking place, or giving in to valet…
and everyone keeps telling me Oak Cliff is the unsafe part of Dallas…i don’t get it
so it’s actually the whole big city that’s scary? or is it just where i live in Oak Cliff?
sad tale, for sure, man, and thanks for the heads up
i’m just sick of folks raggin’ on Oak Cliff, as if it’s the only place in North Texas where crime occurs
Batter for the morning cake!
I think it is just a lesson we should all we careful no matter where we go. Even if your hood is the Park Cities or the Cliff. And it should go without saying, no matter where you are, a young lady should not go to an underground parking lot too late at night by herself.
Just be careful, know your surroundings and have your wits a little bit about you at all times, day or night.
Off soapbox. Now.
So, was there a police report filed about this? Did the victim say which of the restaurants his attackers came from?
If he knows where there are from, a call to the TAB will end this establishment’s ability to sell Liquor… which will have a greater effect on them than any lawsuit.
By the time he could get them to court, they could be out of business… so why not do that now? It will achieve the same thing, but at least he won’t have to wait to get satisfaction.
They have a security guy in the garage in the afternoons. Perhaps they should hire one for late evenings to keep their patrons safe and wanting to return to the establishments in the building.
I’m guessing the guys in the chefs attire didn’t work at a nearby restaturant, but instead did not want to look suspicious. Given the nature of the crime and injuries, I hope it was reported and a good description was given.
Interesting, not a single police report that matches the description of the incident within the last three weeks . . .
This is one particular reason why I always escorted my female servers to their cars during my bartending days. It is also why I always walk or drive my female friends to their cars. I don’t trust any neighborhood, no matter how nice or pretty it looks. Crime strikes anywhere, anytime. It took burglary at my home and assault on me at 3pm on a sunny Sunday in the same neighborhood as this unfortunate event to understand that reality.
Ladies: walk to your cars in packs, just like you do to the restroom!!!! Or wrangle one of your male friends, even if it requires a late phone call, for help. I volunteer my help to any friends…and I have my CHL, which is actively utilized. I’ll give up some sleep as long as my friends make it home safely.
Haven’t you guys seen “The Warriors”? Gangs always dress in costume…watch out!
Its free to park down there? Odds are it was the valet company at Trece or something “suggesting” that your friend not park there.
Weird that there is not one 911 call or police report filed for a robbery, assault, injured person anywhere in that area. Sometimes it’s listed on a cross street. Czeched that too. Nada.
It makes me thinks that this is just another Urban myth… like the Lady of the Lake, or One Size Fits all pantyhose. Just a myth.
Shades of The Onion’s “Five Or Six Dudes Jump Out Of Nowhere And Just Start Whaling On This One Guy”
Lady of the Lake is real. We saw her couch.
I wonder if the “helpful FBvian” owns a competitor to Bodega… or has some other sort of grudge against the proprietor. Just the cynic in me thinking out loud.
don’t wanna call myself naive, but i think yous might be right…this may be a bunch of mularky and nothing more than something the valet co. puts out there to increase business
i gotta remember D will post anything here on FrontBurner regardless of its truthiness and/or validity
held at gun point and beat senseless certainly merits a call to the police and/or a trip to the ER, and without either i’m gonna say this is probably bogus
care to weight in sarah? or are you just gonna sweep this one under the rug
why was this story posted, when there is no data to back it up?
these “journalists” at D once posted something from one of their FBvians that called me a scab and a loudmouth, i’ll cop to the latter but the former is debatable if not outright libelous
and then rogers was aghast when i asked him where the info came from and if he would divulge his “source”
hey, i enjoy this blog, but i also understand that it’s not journalism, not even close. but that’s for another forum, such as the one mcgill posted on yesterday
i just hafta remember that they’ll post anything, any rumor, any slanderous innuendo, anything and then act like it’s fair game if they deem it newsworthy, or better yet, blog-worthy, which is different…i guess
Everyone, the crime is not a hoax. I am posting only in response to an email I sent out to two girlfriends as a warning to be careful parking underground at Travis Walk. Apparently, that email spread like wildfire yesterday.
I love bodega and the rest of travis walk and in no way, shape, or form want to disparage the reputations of the businesses there. I only intended the email to be a “heads up” warning to some friends.
So, keep your eyes open and let’s make sure this type of crime does not happen again in the area.
The victim was at suite that night as well so it’s n
I did some research on the Dallas Police Dept website. There is an aggravated robbery at gun point dated 5/4/08 at 4514 Travis Street. It is NOT a hoax.
Egads… there be the report:
http://66.97.146.94/dpdpublic/.....48979.html
Note the time of the incident: 3:20 a.m.
Bodega Bar closes at midnight, and everything else around there closes at 2:00 a.m.
I’m not implying it’s the fault of the victim, but it’s probably not a good idea to go down into a deserted parking garage after 3:00 a.m. when everything in the vicinity has long since been closed for the evening.
I believe the victim was at Bodega then went to Suite. Suite closed at 2:00ish and he and his date went to the garage shortly thereafter so say 2:30ish. The report time is later because the guy was beaten and dumped in a lower level of the garage After the incident, he awoke, got in his car, and went home - say 4-4:30ish. He filed the police report yesterday so they apparently back dated the times stamp.
I agree that being in a parking garage that late is a risk, but many people leave Suite around 2am to jump in their cars and head home…
thanks for confirming this and watch your backs
