1. DCAD’s new appraisal of the land intended for a Dallas convention center hotel has increased from $7.5 million to $36.5 million. The Council wants to buy the land for $41 million. Here’s hoping I can convince the Council to use the same math and buy my townhome from me. It’s not on the market, but I’ll put it on if the city’s in the buying mood.

2. Dallas-Fort Worth is the 7th-most-ozone-polluted metropolitan area in the country, which isn’t surprising. What is shocking is that it’s Fort Worth that’s more to blame! Goldurn city.

3. Lots of good Mavs gossip to digest, including Donnie saying Avery was on board with the Kidd trade, no matter what he says, and Mike Fisher’s contention that the short list for new coach is now down to D’Antoni (soon to be out in Phoenix), Van Gundy (pretty please), and the absolute worst choice in the nation, Rick Carlisle.

Everybody knows that DCAD isn’t a reliable source for real estate valuation.

Take a look see and see how many perfectly good Uptown apartment buildings have extremely low appraisal numbers. Nobody trades real estate based on DCAD other than to factor the amount of property taxes into holding costs.

I remember the first time I got laughed at by a real estate pro when trying to use DCAD to justify a property value…ijs

The pollution problem really starts in Ellis County.

All that batch plant smoke blows over Tarrant, mixes with exhaust and DFW Airport emissions, and Keller winds up polluted.

Van Gundy? Are you out of your cotton pickin mind? He totally underachieved with the Rockets and, I’d argue, with the Knicks before that. The Mavs are in no way more talented than the Knicks were when Van Gundy was coaching them; what on Earth makes you think he’d be a success here? Puh-leeze. Mike Dan Tony is the only sensible alternative.

Oh yeah, I forgot to laugh at the possibility of hiring Mike D’Antoni or Rick Carlisle.

There is only one thing that can satisfy MFFLs as long as the Dirk era continues, and that is to win a championship…right? The 3 coaches mentioned here are the Gene Shue/Tom Nissalke/Hubie Brown’s of this era. Noted success; no rings. Charlotte nabbed Larry Brown a day too soon, so I think we need Pat Riley.

    Is Rudy-T healthy again?

Let ‘em coach themselves. They’re millionaires — they must be smart. Starts at the top, right?

How much money would it take to lure Popovich out of San Antonio?

    Mr. Mantooth,
I’m a rockets fan, I don’t know any Rockets fan that thinks JVG underachieved with our team. He changed our teams defensive mentality. Thats what he does and he does it well. Now we’ve moved on with Adelman. How did JVG underachieve with the Knicks? It seems like you believe his knicks teams were absolutely loaded. If he underachieved with the knicks then God alone knows what one could call zeke’s reign with the knicks.
Anyway, JVG would be a better fit for the Nuggets.
Rick Carlisle would not be a good fit for the Mavs but he is not the worst choice and there is a reason Donnie Walsh has him in consideration for the knicks job.
D’antoni or Westphal would be my pick.

Rio, those Knicks teams _were_ loaded, but they couldn’t win it all when they made the Finals — mostly because they were outcoached. Heck, his most memorable moment as Knicks coach was when he tried to make sweet doggie love to Alonzo Mourning’s leg.

If you and your Rockets brethren were so satisfied with his 7-12 playoff record in his 4-year soujourn, why was he run out of town on a rail? Probably because he never got the team out of the first round of the playoffs. I think that it was time for Avery to go — he’d lost the support of the players, and in today’s guaranteed-contract NBA, it’s impossible to get rid of players, but easy by comparison to switch coaches — but Van Gundy isn’t the answer.

Carlisle had the same problems in Indy that Avery had here, only the Pacers were less talented. He’d be a disaster.

Now I see that SI.com is reporting that we’re trying to lure Rick “Unmitigated Disaster as Celtics Coach” Pitino to take the job. Heaven help us.
