SMU’s student newspaper is exposing the boorish behavior of some of its students:
One doctor wrote to complain on behalf of a thousand conference attendees. In early April, the group of doctors stayed at the same North Dallas hotel a group of SMU students were also booked at. On all 15 floors, he wrote, SMU students “urinated in hallways,” “came close to physical confrontations with other guests,” kicked in doors and walked in on other guests in their rooms. He also said yelling and profane language went on until dawn.
The odd part about the story is that the revelation comes not in a story in the Daily Campus, but rather in an ad — paid for by a vice president of student affairs.
“the revelation come”
Thanks, Gwyon. It takes a village.
This is outrageous! I thought one attends SMU to better learn where to empty one’s bladder and bowels! How long before people see this story as the best explanation to date why SMU’s affiliation with the Bush Library is a natural fit?
nothing new here, same complaints were being made in the 1980s and 1990s
why were smu students staying at a north dallas hotel?
The ad ran on Tuesday, April 22. Way to recycle a week-old ad and make people think it’s fresh. You’re on top of things, Channel 8!
Of course, because EVERYBODY reads the Daily Campus.
mka - If it’s anything like when I was there in the early 90s, the ND hotel in question is about the only venue in town willing to allow a fraternity to host a party in its ballroom and to rent rooms to kids at the same time. I think the real complaints should land at the hotel, though. I’m sure they’ve gotten their share of them over the years, but the fact that they continue to allow college kids to grace the halls must mean, in the end, even with other pissed off guests and pissed on floors, it’s good for business.
Don’t get me wrong, though. The University (like most universities) has a real issue on their hands here. Let’s start with calling a spade a spade - today’s online article at The Daily Campus shows a picture of the InterContinental Hotel in North Dallas and reports that it was the Phi Delt annual Casino party, which has been going on for years. And I’m pretty sure the lewd conduct is nothing new.
In a related story online today, The Daily Campus points to various incidents at the SAE house (date rape, drug use, you standard college fraternity fare?) and how nothing more ever happens than a slap on the wrist b/c of some wealthy alums on the Board of Trustees. Same song, different verse from my days there, but you would think 3 deaths in one year (2 of them SAE members) would generate a little more hysteria than a task force recommending a pub on campus.
…to my SAE brethern at SMU… Phi Alpha, dudes. Way to represent.
Ah, j.d.w… You did Texas Theta proud!
The fact that you think anyone writing at, or anything appearing in the Daily Campus is credible is ridiculous to being with.
Rawlins, kids go to SMU to learn that he world is their toilet! They probably think with the Bush Library, anything goes. They are just following in the president’s footsteps, W ruins the country and SMU students ruin the school. Isn’t DICK Chaney on the Board of Trustees-well there you go! One low-rent thing after another!!!
And to think, people get outraged when the homeless soil the public library…Oh, wait. Maybe some of those library urinators are SMU grads whose trust funds ran out…..
Let me guess…shaggy-haired douche bags in chino shorts and loafers drinking natural light and blowing coke off of CEOs’ daughters ****! Next year’s bash should be held at the Ritz Carlton where everyone in attendance can take a dump on the elevators, and rape the housekeepers!
