1. Frisco now has more than 100,000 people. This adjusted number came about when the U.S. Census people were finally allowed to count shoppers in Ikea as Frisco residents.
2. North Texas school districts, including Plano and Carrollton-Farmers Branch, are spending more money to educate parents on how they can better prepare their students for school. Do me a favor: read the quotes of the hard-workin’ Stacey Camp, a Plano mother, and tell me, you think she listens more to Rush, Mark Davis, or she just keeps Fox News on in the background all day?
3. On Live 105.3, Jerry Stackhouse tells a great story about why he thinks New Orleans head coach Byron Scott is a punk. When earlier this year Scott told Stack, “Talk to me when you get a ring,” Stack replied, “If I played with Magic and Worthy and Kareem, I’d have a ring, too.” Game 3 tonight.
Wonder if Cuban is planning the parade yet?
Needing a little outrage to jolt me awake, I clicked over to read the wisdom of Stacey Camp. Gotta say I was underwhelmed. Her tone bore a trace of that classic neocon paranoid anger, but her point is hardly objectionable. Indeed, are ISD budgets now going to sponsor life-skills classes for grown adults?
Stacy is so self-absorbed that she can’t see that her way penalizes the *kids* - not their parents. And when those kids aren’t helped, they will affect Stacy’s kids, and when that happens, she will piss and moan because nothing was done about it when something *could* be done.
At some point you have to be willing to spend some money to try something new.
I think that Ms. Camp should take a breath and realize that this is an excellent use of her tax dollars. When the community improves, we all reap the benefits. A better-educated Texas makes for a better Texas.
Not to mention the difference it will make for the parents in the classes and their children. The school that Ms. Camp’s children attend will be much better for it as well.
It seems improbable to me that someone without the time, energy, or common sense to read to their children would seek out a “how-to-not-raise-an-*****” class and attend it regularly. Maybe I’m wrong.
That said, I don’t share Ms. Camp’s (apparent) anger about it. Worth a try, I guess, but I’m at least a wee bit wary about expanding the umbrella of social services offered through school districts.
The Plano woman has a helluva nerve questioning the cost and effectiveness of a government school parent education initiative. Typical neocon Rush paranoia, you bet.
Funny quote, if only stack was that defiant when David West put his finger in Dirk’s face. It also would be nice if he lead by example and shot more than 30% on the mighty Mo Peterson.
And Chris Paul wouldn’t have been physically able to drive down the lane 20x per game on the old Lakers.
I’m so worn out on the phrase “hard-earned taxes.” Yes, the good citizens of Plano are all working so hard, all those coal miners from Plano. Wait. There’s no coal mine in Plano?
Perish the thought that someone not working as hard as you getting something.
We get it. You work.
There’s a reason why those people live in Plano - and now their reason is being dissipated because their schools are getting diverse.
Well, there’s always Frisco. 100,000 + the campy lady.
