Leading Off

1. Avery Johnson wore his Spurs championship ring to the game last night to inspire his team to greatness. “New Orleans spent the final few minutes Tuesday of a 127-103 win clowning the Mavs and attempting dunks usually reserved for practice.” Go, Stars!

2. The Morning News runs an editorial this morning supporting the May 10 Dallas ISD bond. This is going to be a tough one, kids. I know at least one recently retired longtime Dallas teacher who has a son employed by a magazine and who has a “vote no” sign in her yard. She has lost faith in the district’s leadership. Her son? He’ll vote yes. So we’ll see. One thing we do know for sure: Trustee Edwin Flores’ theory that the DMN has been working to “cast doubt on the 2008 Bond program to sell more newspapers” holds a little less water this morning.

3. Senior Cpl. Jerry Poston is a 17-year Dallas police veteran. Last summer, in the line of duty, Poston took a shotgun blast to the face and another to the thigh. He lost an eye and still has pellets lodged in his face. But Poston returned to work just five months after the shooting. Right now, he’s working as a detective, but he’s anxious to get back on patrol. Why? “It’s just what I do,” he said.

Major Kudos to Cpl Poston. The fact he was shot so extensively and still fought to go back to work is very impressive.

I admire Cpl. Poston. He’s the type of guy I pictured as a kid. A hero and role model.

wonder if NEW ORLEANS is planning a championship parade yet.

I would ask in jest, “Are the Mavs still playing?” if I thought they had ever started.

Although the bond program is mostly benefits southern sector, Woodrow Wilson High is promised a new wing, the first addition to the Dallas Landmark/Texas Historical Marker/Recognized by National Trust school since 1979.

East Dallasites get out and vote (also there are 26,000 Woodrow alumni who mostly live in the area). We nearly pulled off an upset on the Trinity. So don’t forget that dynamic. Also Rod Dreher has us all riled up at present.

OK, I changed my mind after talking with leaders at Alliance AFT. They convinced me the biggest problems with the last Bond repairs were not the fault of money allocation but rather local sign-offs (before things were properly checked). And it happened under Moses’ administration. Hopefully there will be better supervision this time. Go Alliance!
