The Playmate Search Video

Tim asks, Tim receives. Thanks again to Online Producer-slash-Nightlife Maven Kyle Kearbey:

Dallas is Going Wild for Birds

bna_bes_goldcheekwarb_s.jpgAt the risk of receiving another batch of shut-up-about- birds e-mails, I venture forth with this news. On April 23, the president of the National Audubon Society, John Flicker (is that a perfect name or what?), will be in Dallas to break ground on the new Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center. Of course, most of you already know that Dogwood Canyon is where the first sighting of the endangered golden-cheeked warbler in over 35 years was recorded in 2001, so I won’t bore you with too many details. The $7.4 million center will open in spring 2009. In the meantime, the trails that cover over 270 acres on the White Rock Escarpment, just southwest of downtown, are open for exploration. If you hurry you can still catch the flowering dogwood trees.

FrontBurner Is Lame Today

But you know what would redeem it? A video of the Playboy playmate search that recently went down in Dallas. Man, if we only had such a video. Hmm …

‘Yearning For Zion’ Case Smells More Rotten Every Day

The case against the polygamists in San Angelo appears to be unraveling like a month-old Haggar sweater. Scott Henson summarizes where we are now, and it doesn’t look good for Texas authorities despite their embarrassingly obvious PR campaign.

Jock and Droll

Randy Jennings has a nice little item in today’s SportsDay about a pair of brother jockeys at Lone Star Park. Justin, 21, is slightly more accomplished than Dustin, 17. But here’s the good part:

The boys’ parents had a sense of humor when it came to naming them: Justin Time and Dusty Ryder. Dusty uses his middle name in the program.

Get Ready for the Bluebird Festival

bill2.jpgSaturday April 26, the town of Wills Point will host the 15th annual Texas Bluebird Festival. It’s a hoot with all kinds of small-town fun like the Little Miss Bluebird beauty pageant, the Bluebird Talent Contest, and the Bluebird Quilt Show. Check out the website for more details. See you there.  (The photo is “my” male bluebird, Bill, stocking up on worms for his newest brood.)

Friday Fun

A little late this Friday. Sorry about that. I hope The Last Canopy makes up for it. The game is apparently an example of a Manic Shooter game. I learned that from Jay Is Games, the site that awarded The Last Canopy a 1st place something or other. All’s I knows is it’s some Friday Fun. Enjoy.

And … We’re Back

Sorry for that. Apparently our storage engine suffered an error 28. We got a fresh hamster in there to power it back up. All appears to working properly again.

Leading Off (Suck-up to Wick Version)

1. Gov. Rick Perry announced he would most likely seek another term in 2010, which gives us the possibility of a 14-year Perry reign. (Cue Wick’s political pants sproinging off him and flying against the wall in cartoonish anger.) Of course, Perry could always be Rick rolling us.

2. Steve Brown says even the Park Cities are suffering from the housing downturn. (Cue pants-less Wick shaking his fist in a defiant, disbelieving manner at the large cardboard cut-out of Steve Brown he keeps in his office.)

3. Firefighters saved the small, white, fluffy life of a dog they revived 15 minutes after rescuing the limp animal from a Southeast Dallas fire early yesterday. (Cue close-up of Wick’s left cheek, tracking the single tear that rolls down his face. That man loves him some little doggies.)

FrontBurner® has been called the best blog in town (recently, and repeatedly), a snarky celebration of ignorance, and a daily conversation about Dallas among the editors of D Magazine.
