The Cowboys 2008 schedule is out. Blah blah blah. Bigger news: the details on the huge, HD displays are now public. How huge are the TVs? The 11,393-square-foot screens are about five times the size of my house. The 170,000-pound things will take about nine months to install, because I bet Jerry Jones, like a certain member of my household, insists that the new TVs cannot have any visible wires. It’s like the “no wire hangers” of TV installation.
That “thought” is common…business partner, several friends…all say the same thing. Frankly I don’t care. As long as they are wrapped in cable organizer, like velcro ties, I’m good. I’ll take sufficiently organized over hidden.
I’m sure Jerry is actually hosting a video gaming series during those 9 months. Rock Band anyone? Guitar Hero? I’m old school…gimme Command & Conquer from my PC.
How much of that big screen will just be covered up by digital advertising? UT Austin has a great big screen Jumbotron, but a third of it is used for advertisements for H.E.B. and Dr. Pepper. I think the big screen at the Cotton Bowl is set up the same way. I know I saw the CGI video on the cowboys website and it showed the whole screen used to show live action and replays. I know Jerry will see the dollar $igns and that Supertron Screen will actually be a Supertron Billboard…
Baseball’s Washington Nationals has a lot of green features built in. Are there any at this new field? Just wondering when I saw the 635 Kw power consumption of this screen on the specs page.
Stinks that the last game ever to be played in Texas Stadium will be a night game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Should be the Redskins. At high noon. Showdown. Beer Brawl.
I wonder if they ar DLP, lcd, or rear projection? Is jerry paying extra for the HD package on Dishnet? I know he’s not using Time Warner as they don’t carry the NFL Network.
It’ll probably be like the TV screen in the major-motion-picture “Idiocracy”. All ads, a tiny amount of action.
The Cowboys’ AV department sucks. Go to one Mavs game and then a Cowboys game. Their competing approaches to incorporating video into the fan experience is like going from the major leagues down to rookie ball. Maybe they’ll remedy that when they move into the new Cowboys Stadium Near Glorypark.
Bill, you’ve already counted them out of hosting a playoff game? I would say a playoff game or two but it is now 4,127 days since the ‘Boys won a playoff game so I’ll just stick with them hosting A playoff game.
