Independent Book Store Landing in the ‘Burbs

Coming soon to Plano, where it’s not safe, is one of the country’s biggest independent book stores. (Really now, this can’t be true since the suburbs are bland, corporate, sanitized, and whatever else the hipper-than-thou types want to believe if it will keep them out of my neighborhood and off my lawn.)

  1. I like the part about how she’s patterning the store after other one-of-a-kind bookstores.

But hey, looks nice. And I promise to stay off your lawn.

  2. Meanwhile, the new Park Lane development in Dallas across from NorthPark will be filled with Chili’s, Circuit City, Starbucks, Borders and every other generic retailer on the market. Just like the ultra-unique businesses along Knox and in the West Village. Oh how, great it is to be an urbanite!

  3. I’m really excited about this… and it is a much better idea than the 73,000 sq ft CD and pager warehouse they were considering…

  4. Hmmm. At 24,000 sq. ft., they will probably have to carry some books not required by the TAKS tests. Will Plano ISD demand a voice in what the store carries?

  5. If patterned after Book People in Austin, its a good thing. What’s next for Plano, Democrats?

  9. has there been any news on this? has anyone driven by to see what is going on? I am from out of town but would love to see this store open and be a success. Without indepentdent bookstores, many books would never have a life. Love your indies!
