Panic at the Disco Raid at the Rave Club

I don’t frequent “rave club” Afterlife Dallas very often, by which I mean not at all. But it looks like a swell place to dance the night away. For $15 at the door, you get to party until 4 a.m., buy glowsticks, and meet some friendly police officers as they raid the place. A soon-to-be-bookmarked-site The Dirty (aka, the site that had those Matt Leinart with underage girls and a beer bong pics) has a Dallas page that has an account from someone who was there. With video, too.

    Sean,

That’s not all… these people were in a DARK ROOM, DANCING and SMOKING! Alarmingly, many were also SWEATING PROFUSELY, THEIR PUPILS WERE HUGE and… THEY WANTED TO HUG and TOUCH!

How the hell could this be allowed to happen?!?

Kids who were DANCING while simultaneously SWEATING PROFUSELY…..

Kids in a DARK ROOM whose PUPILS WERE HUGE….

Kids who wanted to HUG AND TOUCH and LOVE EVERYBODY…

    I say, let them FRY!!!

yeah, and if they shut the club down its not like anybody is going to stop what their doing genius! Everyone will find a different place to go.. If that’s not what your in to than so be it.. But let everyone have their fun and you can sit at home and beat your meat! Just because you are a loser dosnt mean you need to ruin the fun for everyone else.. At least at afterlife everyone is safe, the security has a close eye on what is going on..

at least everyone loves each other instead of being drunk at a bar, getting into a fight, then driving home drunk putting more than their own life at risk!

By the way, I was at candy mountain… It was a blast.. There was sooo many people there it was amazing.. Then the police showed up and it turned into a comedy act… Everyone had a blast even during the raid… Most of those cops didn’t even know why they were there.. They just ran in, stuck guns in everyone face and made everyone lay on the ground in the cold… I asked a swat guy why they were there, he said they were there to find guns.. How much since does that make? None… But if people would have know about the raid before hand, I gurentee there would have been more than double the people that were there.

    Dance4Life (what a feeling!),

When I was a young buck, I learned to read and write first, and SUBSEQUENTLY did recreational drugs, hugged the Pharaoh, etc. But if that’s not what your in to than so be it.

I’ve been there before, it wasn’t my scene but come on, it’s just a bunch of young adults listening to music and dancing, they don’t even serve alcohol. There wasn’t any drug use or solicitation that I saw but I seriously doubt you would have any trouble busting people for coke at Ghostbar and the like.

And that girl tattling sound like a real barrel of fun

Having read many, many, posts and comments on various boards, I’ve yet to read one single poster claiming to have been offered any drug for sale during the Candy Mountain event. Bear in mind too, Club Afterlife was rented for the evening and did not organize or coordinate this particular event.

All of the promotional material expressed a no-drug policy. There were signs on the gate saying clearly “No Drugs.” Were a few attendees a little loopy when they walked in? Yeah, probably, but dang few. I personally looked at everyone that walked in the gate and feel that THIS event was about as drug free as a “party” could be.

BTW, the warrant was issued on Thursday before the party. This was planned in advance by the Dallas PD. The warrant did not specify what they were to search for or to seize. It only referred to an affidavit that was not produced.

After the police raked through all the dirt and cut out the bottoms of all the couches and turned them over, no drugs, discarded or otherwise were found.

Only one person was led out by the police in handcuffs. I never left the gate all night and watched the police look at every single party goer as they left. The arrestee was about as clean cut an undercover cop as one could imagine. It was almost comical. About 7 attendees were supposedly ticketed for public intoxication out of around 1500 partier goers (yes, this is an accurate count and not a wild estimate.) One could find more drugs and alcohol at a high school prom…..

I overheard the Sargent say “Lets line them up and vette them all and make some arrests so all this is all worthwhile….”

The police EXPECTED to make arrests, but could not find a reason to cuff anyone. You can’t cuff someone for selling cotton candy, even illegally… LOL!

Several ravers from out of town (out of state in one case) are stuck with “Illegal vending” tickets for standing too close to the cotton candy machine. That sucks and is really hard to understand.

Several of the cops were unhappy about being there and considered it a waste of time. One was called in from vacation in the middle of the night to participate. One policeman said that the reason for the raid is because a certain city councilman wants to close the club down and has told the police department to “get them.” meaning Club Afterlife…. Also, NO FIRE MARSHALL in uniform passed through the gate! The over occupancy citation was issued by the Police.

Candy Mountain was all about music, funny clothes, socializing and entertainment. Drugs, this night had very little to do with it. Freedom of expression is what America is supposed to be all about….

I mean, Raves aren’t all that bad,
I love danceing with glow sticks and having fun, but not necessarily with acid or any other ‘candy’ I’m not a candy kid but I do go to these things. Its really not THAT BAD.

awww….candy mountain was a blast and whatever happened to mark Annis…??? the owner?

  • SweetAddiction

i heard that the owner wasnt even there since he knew Candy mountain was going to have some trouble.

In my own opinion, AfterLife is a great club, me and my Fiance go there to make friends and love to see old friends. I’ve heard about drug use there but it doesnt make me want to not go. It’s their business, if people want to do it then let them suffer! Afterlife, in my eyes, is totally innocent when it came to CandyMountain. The police were just itching for some action since they knew about the event. Most of the people that were outside sitting on the ground were still having fun. Some were singing, others were sleeping. To all the Ravers there…the raid was just another event.

It was a great and fullfilling night.
I’m currently a resident DJ at Afterlife and have been partying there usually every weekend for close to a year now. Although there has been a lot of confusion of what really happened, Bill H. sums it up quite well. Candy Mountain was a very successful party due to the mass amounts of entertainment I witnessed throughout the night but sadly due to a thousand or more people that were legally able to fit inside the club ultimately caused a breech in over-capacity. To correct you on one thing bill I spoke with mark and the head manager Josh and the overall count was between 2000-2500 people. Afterlife has only been zoned to hold up to 1000. I had a feeling this was going to be a problem when the massive parking lot filled up and attendents started to park along side the road and even what seemed like to be ditches. There was no end to the people walking through the gate from open time to about 2:45 when the Dallas Crowd Control showed up. From what I saw after being sectioned outside in the cold courtyard, Dallas PD counted, counted, and counted some more and after about an hour of waiting, they moved everyone out in sections and viewed pupils and composure as the people of all kinds headed out the gate. I saw one man get zip tied and nothing more that I could see up by the gate. Shortly after leaving the parking lot I saw a mass amount of Police huddling over a large black duffle like looking bag with contents spread out beside it. I couldn’t make out what it was but it very well could have been drugs…Fun night.

I wish I was there that night. I just started going to Club Afterlife and then I started hearing about this Candy Mountain thing and it sounds like it was pretty much a blast.
