Rangers Home Opener … Yum

Oh, would that I were headed to the Ballpark in Arlington for this afternoon’s game. Makes me hungry just thinking about it. My top three concession-stand finds (excluding beer, natch): jalapeno bagel dog (though every year I wonder if it’ll be available), onion garlic fries with Old Bay seasoning (dunno why I said “onion.” Hunger pangs, I guess), then the catfish basket.

Commenters, your turn.

Update: Glad to see the commenters have carried on the discussion. A coupla points: 1. I can’t say with certainty that there will be bagel dogs. I wasn’t able to find ‘em last season. 2. The garlic fries are at the concession stand nearest the right foul pole. At least, that’s where they were last time I checked. Go, Rangers.

Heading out there in about 30 minutes. There WILL be a stop at the nacho stand to buy a large nacho with extra cheese and a large Dr Pepper - just my little tradition. Then it’s on to hot dogs and beer.

This is my year to complete the 9-9-9 challenge. First dollar hot dog night they have out there, I’ll be trying to consume 9 hot dogs and 9 beers in 9 innings. Takes a true champion to pull it off.

My favorites at a Rangers game include a large basket of crushed hope followed by a side order of mediocrity.

I worked as a peanut vendor the first year the Rangers came to town…been a fan ever since. I’ll be there today for the first pitch. Normally, I have slim hopes, but always reserve any real excitement until after the All-Star break, when they take a dive and vie for the cellar. This year I don’t even have vague hopes starting off, so maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised come October.

The Garlic fries are the best… can’t wait for the first game I can attend.

Not worth the drive to Arlington - hope they can fill the seats for at least the opener.

Is 9 hot dogs and 9 beers in 9 innings good for the mind, body and soul? If so, I’m in.

When did they upgrade the menu?

where does one find said jalapeno bagel dog?

And where to find the garlic fries?

First day nachos are the best. The new concession stand rookies haven’t learned yet to be spartan with the cheese, so you actually get enough so that even the last chip can be cheesy. Yum.

Last day of the season nachos are crummy. Although you get a lot of cheese (because they need to use it up, I guess), the chips are all stale. It’s a thin line between great nachos and lousy nachos, I suppose.
